Job description

Job Title: Intern

Reports To: Program Manager

FSLA Status: Seasonal, 10-week (flexible) non-exempt

Salary: DOE - Starts at $15.00 per hour


Position Summary:
Telluride Academy seeks organized and motivated individuals to join our team as interns. Interns play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of our summer programs by providing essential administrative, programming, and logistical support. This position offers valuable hands-on experience in office management, gear preparation, and event coordination, contributing to the success of Telluride Academy's programs.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monday Morning Registration: Facilitate registration set-up, meet and greet families, t-shirt distribution, and any last-minute needs for Field Instructors and camp participants.
  • Telluride Academy Store Management: Prepare and manage materials for the Telluride Academy store, including table set-up, hats, t-shirts, and other branded merchandise.
  • Administrative Support: Assist with office tasks, including answering phone calls, mail collection, data entry, document printing, paper shredding, and program packet preparation/deconstruction. Assist with fundraising events (setup/breakdown).
  • Gear Management: Organize, inventory, clean, and maintain outdoor equipment (activity kits, tents, kitchen kits, boating gear, climbing gear) to ensure readiness for programs.
  • Logistics Coordination: Support logistical tasks such as coordinating parent drop-off/pick-up, printing program packets, deconstructing program packets upon completion of programs, and preparing materials for staff and participants.
  • General Organization: Contribute to maintaining a clean, orderly, and efficient workspace to support program operations.
  • Thursday Afternoon Camp Return: Assist with unloading vans (camper bags, TA materials/gear), gear cleaning/storage, cleaning classrooms, and cleaning TA vans.
  • Perform any additional duties as assigned or deemed necessary by administration to support the organization's goals and operations.


Qualifications:

  • At least 14 years old by the start of employment.
  • Strong "can do" work ethic, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to learn and work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and a positive attitude.
  • Interest in outdoor education, environmental stewardship, and youth programming.
  • Previous administrative or logistical experience is a plus.


Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work indoors or outdoors for prolonged periods of time in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, and rain.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and extended shifts, based on administrative and programming needs.


Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs safely and repeatedly throughout the workday.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with TA staff, administrators, campers, and parents in a positive, friendly, and professional manner.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and be physically active for extended periods of time (up to 8-10 hours per day).
  • Ability to kneel, bend, stoop, and perform physical tasks.


Schedule:

  • This is a seasonal position running from June 8th to August 14th, with a flexible Monday through Thursday work schedule (8:00 am - 5:00 pm).
  • Interns can expect to work 10-20 hours per week on average, with busier periods in July and lighter workloads in June and August. Interns may also be requested to attend staff meetings and training on Fridays when scheduled.
