Job description

Fluor is one of Canada's top employers and is recognized globally as a leader in the Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Fabrication, and Maintenance industry. Our focus on innovation and providing cost-effective technology-based solutions is second to none. As we look to the future, we need creative, ambitious, and innovative professionals who can help us fulfill our purpose to Build a Better World.

Fluor team members are at the heart of our success in executing projects safely, thoughtfully, and with the highest quality. If you value teamwork, empowerment in your career, and are eager to champion innovative and sustainable solutions to our clients, this opportunity just may be for you. Job Description The Intermediate Pipeline Engineer supports the engineering, design, and execution of pipeline and associated facilities projects through studies, FEED, detailed engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup.

Working with moderate technical independence and under the direction of a Pipeline Engineering Lead, the role delivers calculations, specifications, studies, and design packages that meet project, regulatory, safety, quality, cost, and schedule requirements. The successful candidate applies practical pipeline engineering knowledge, coordinates effectively with multidisciplinary teams, and supports resolution of technical and field issues. The role also provides opportunities to check defined work, guide junior engineers, strengthen client relationships, and develop toward senior or lead engineering responsibilities.

Pipeline Engineering and Design Perform pipeline engineering for oil, gas, CO2, hydrogen, water, and multiphase systems under the direction of senior or lead engineers. Prepare and check calculations related to hydraulics, surge, wall thickness, materials, stress, stability, crossings, buoyancy, and pipeline integrity. Develop design basis documents, specifications, technical reports, material requisitions, data sheets, and engineering inputs to drawings and models.

Project Execution and Coordination Coordinate pipeline requirements and interfaces with process, mechanical, piping, civil, structural, geotechnical, electrical, instrumentation and controls, environmental, procurement, construction, and project controls teams. Plan and execute assigned work within established scope, budget, and schedule; identify constraints, changes, and technical risks early. Participate in interdisciplinary reviews, design reviews, risk assessments, constructability reviews, and technical meetings.

Procurement, Construction, and Field Support Prepare procurement documentation and support technical bid evaluations, vendor clarification, and vendor document review for pipeline materials and equipment. Respond to technical queries and support field design changes, non-conformance resolution, and construction issue management under appropriate supervision. Provide engineering support during construction, testing, commissioning, and startup, including site and vendor visits as required.

Technical Quality and Team Development Produce accurate, complete, and traceable deliverables in accordance with applicable codes, regulations, client requirements, and company procedures. Perform defined checking and verification assignments within demonstrated areas of competence. Provide day-to-day guidance to graduate and junior engineers and contribute to technical knowledge sharing.

Basic Job Requirements Education and Experience Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Materials, or a related engineering discipline from an accredited institution. Typically 6-10 years of relevant pipeline engineering experience across studies, FEED, detailed engineering, procurement, or construction support. Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration in Alberta or eligibility to obtain registration is preferred

Technical Competencies Working knowledge of CSA Z662 and applicable provincial and federal pipeline regulatory requirements; familiarity with ASME B31.4, B31.8, B31.12, or relevant API standards is an asset. Practical knowledge of pipeline hydraulics, materials and wall thickness, routing, crossings, stress, integrity, testing, construction methods, and trenchless installation. Familiarity with pipeline facilities such as valve sites, meter stations, launcher and receiver facilities, pump stations, or compressor stations

Communication and Professional Skills Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with sound engineering judgment and attention to detail. Clear written, verbal, and presentation skills, including preparation of concise technical documentation. Other Job Requirements Preferred Qualifications Experience with large-diameter transmission pipelines, gathering systems, or energy-transition infrastructure including CO2 or hydrogen.

Experience with composite or thermoplastic pipeline systems, offshore pipelines, advanced stress analysis, or GIS applications. Success Profile Delivers technically sound work with increasing independence while recognizing when senior input is required. Balances engineering quality with safety, constructability, cost, schedule, operational, and client requirements.
