We are seeking a highly motivated Manufacturing Engineering Intern to join our Mishawaka team for the summer. This is a high-priority internship offering hands-on experience with real-world manufacturing challenges, automation, and system integration.

Key Responsibilities

The primary project will be the development of a vision-based validation system on the wheel and tire assembly line

• Design a system positioned above the conveyor to verify correct wheel/tire assemblies post-inflation
• Identify and validate key product attributes, including:
  • Wheel: color, size, style, bolt pattern
  • Tire: brand, model, size
• Support integration of vision system outputs with part data and work order systems
• Capture and link critical traceability data (manufacturer date codes and factory codes)
• Assist in improving labeling, documentation, and QR-based traceability for customers
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, quality, and IT

Expected Deliverables

• Developed concept and working model for the vision-based validation system
• Defined validation logic and attribute recognition approach
• Integration framework connecting inspection results to work order and customer data
• Recommendations and improvements for traceability and labeling processes
• End-of-summer capstone presentation showcasing project results, impact, and future recommendations

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Interest in automation, vision systems, or manufacturing processes
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams
• Strong communication skills, including the ability to present technical findings
