Job description

Overview
Ready to turn your interest in fitness into a professional coaching career?
The Personal Trainer Career Accelerator Internship is a structured, mentorship driven program designed primarily for career changers, recent graduates, newly certified trainers, and individuals preparing to transition into professional personal training.
This program is best suited for someone who brings professional or real world experience from another role or industry and is now ready to build a career in health and fitness.
Interns work alongside experienced personal trainers in a private, one on one training environment while developing practical skills in movement assessment, individualized program design, client communication, behavior change, and long term client success.
Our clients are primarily adults who value personal attention, accountability, professionalism, and a coach who understands that lasting change involves much more than completing a workout.
This is an unpaid internship designed as a bridge into the fitness profession, not simply an opportunity to fulfill college internship hours.
Interns pursuing certification will have access to a significantly discounted NASM Certified Personal Trainer certification pathway as part of their professional development.
For the right candidate, successful completion of the program may lead to consideration for a personal training position with Fitness Together.
Responsibilities
• Shadow experienced personal trainers during private one on one client sessions
• Learn how assessment findings, client goals, health history, and movement quality influence individualized program design
• Practice movement assessments and exercise selection under trainer supervision
• Develop skills in exercise progression, regression, cueing, and adapting workouts to individual client needs
• Participate in coaching exercises focused on rapport, communication, behavior change, motivational interviewing, and client accountability
• Learn appropriate nutrition coaching strategies within a personal trainer's scope of practice
• Complete structured assignments and client case studies that connect coaching theory with real world application
• Gradually participate in appropriate portions of client sessions under supervision as skills and competency develop
• Complete a final coaching capstone and career readiness evaluation
• Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, confidentiality, initiative, and openness to feedback throughout the program
Qualifications
• Career changer, recent graduate, newly certified trainer, or individual actively preparing to enter the personal training profession
• College degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Medicine, Health Science, or a related field is welcomed but not required
• Candidates currently enrolled in college should be approaching graduation and preparing to enter the workforce in the near term
• Professional experience in another field, coaching, teaching, healthcare, hospitality, customer service, leadership, or another people focused role is strongly valued
• Comfortable building relationships and communicating professionally with an adult clientele
• Genuine interest in helping people create sustainable changes in their health, fitness, and daily habits
• Strong interpersonal skills, emotional maturity, dependability, and professional judgment
• Receptive to coaching, feedback, accountability, and continuous learning
• Able to commit approximately 10 to 20 hours per week during the internship
• Serious interest in transitioning into professional personal training following successful completion of the program
Benefits
• Structured mentorship from experienced Fitness Together personal trainers
• Hands on experience in private one on one personal training
• Real world education in assessment, program design, exercise modification, behavior change, communication, and client retention
• Experience working with an established adult clientele with diverse goals, abilities, and life experiences
• Development of interpersonal and coaching skills that are difficult to learn through certification coursework alone
• Access to a significantly discounted NASM Certified Personal Trainer certification pathway for interns pursuing certification
• Structured feedback and final career readiness evaluation
• Certificate of completion
• Letter of recommendation for qualified interns who successfully complete the program
• Potential consideration for future employment with Fitness Together based on performance, qualifications, availability, and business needs
