Location: 1100 S. Hamilton Avenue, 6th Floor, Chicago, Illinois 60612
Bureau: Juvenile Justice Bureau
Salary: $175,552. Salary provided by law; however, individual compensation is based on various factors unique to each candidate, including skill set, years and quality of experience. Any salary offered is determined by the Chief of Staff and is non-negotiable.
Application Deadline: June 14, 2026
Note: The Cook County State's Attorney's Office does not sponsor H1-B work visa petitions.
General Description: The Juvenile Justice Division Deputy Supervisor of the Cook County States Attorneys Office will direct the Assistant States Attorneys within the Juvenile Justice Division. This is a full-time bargaining unit exempt position.
Working Environment and Reporting Structure: The Juvenile Justice Division Deputy Supervisor is responsible for the daily operations of approximately four Juvenile Justice courtrooms (approximately 12 Assistant States Attorneys). The Deputy Supervisor will collaborate with the Juvenile Justice Bureau and Division Chiefs, other Juvenile Justice Supervisors, Juvenile Trial Supervisors, law enforcement, juvenile courthouse partners, and community service providers regularly. The Deputy Supervisor shall report directly to the Juvenile Justice Division Chief.
The Juvenile Justice Division Deputy Supervisor shall be an effective advocate and emissary of the mission, vision, and values of the Cook County States Attorneys Office both with ASAs as well as juvenile court, law enforcement, and community partners.
Duties/Requirements:
- Advise, support, encourage, train, collaborate, and assess both experienced as well as new second assignment ASAs on an ongoing basis. Offer hands-on assistance in and out of the courtroom from screening new cases to litigation.
- Spend a substantial amount of time daily in each courtroom as a resource and hands on support to deal with questions, problems or issues that come up and to observe the performance of each ASA so that guidance may be offered, encouragement given, and progress documented.
- Handle or assist with the handling of sensitive cases, and co-chair significant trials, including juries, with division ASAs to mentor, train, model and enrich the Juvenile Justice learning experience.
- Keep abreast of all legislative and case law updates relative to Juvenile Justice law.
- Interact regularly in and outside of court with victims, judges, law enforcement, family members, victim-witness representatives, probation officers, community representatives, medical professionals, mental health professionals and school personnel regarding cases in the Juvenile Justice Division to achieve the best outcomes for children, families, and crime victims.
- Provide trainings to Juvenile Justice Division ASAs and to law enforcement.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must have a minimum of 8 years of litigation experience in criminal or juvenile justice.
- Must have demonstrated strong leadership skills and ability to train newer ASAs.
- Must have significant trial experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- A working knowledge of the Juvenile Court Act
- Experience prosecuting juvenile justice cases
- Previous service as a Trial Supervisor in either the Felony Review Unit or the Juvenile Justice Division
- Legal writing experience
Physical Requirements:
Light work. Light work involves lifting no more than 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Even though the weight lifted may be very little, a job is in this category when it requires a good deal of walking or standing, or when it involves sitting most of the time with some pushing and pulling of arm or leg controls. To be considered capable of performing a full or wide range of light work, you must have the ability to do substantially all these activities. If someone can do light work, we determine that he or she can also do sedentary work, unless there are additional limiting factors such as loss of fine dexterity or inability to sit for long periods of time.
Equal Employment Opportunity:
