JOB SUMMARY & RESPONSIBILITIES
POET is currently the nation's 11th largest container exporter, exporting feed products to more than 20 countries. In Savannah we will continue to drive consistency and demand within several of POET's key markets for POET Dried Distillers Grain and POET Corn Fermented Protein animal feed. Our customers have already come to expect nothing less than the best in food safety and quality from POET, and we will continue to deliver as a trusted partner.
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 6:45 AM - 4:30 PM, with occasional weekend and holiday work required (includes overtime, holiday pay + double time pay)
The Top Lift Operator works independently to perform container movements within the storage yard. The operator assists with various production-based responsibilities such as safely operating heavy machinery within the terminal, organizing the containers in the yard, and container data entry.
This is an on-site position located in Savannah, GA. Responsibilities include:
  • Conduct daily pre-inspection of equipment to ensure compliance
  • Coordinate within the yard the daily plan and ensure the yard is organized to execute the plan for the day (utilizing electronic communications and POET software)
  • Interact with over-the-road drivers arriving on the premises, providing assistance and direction.
  • Operate specialized heavy machinery (Top-Lift) to maneuver the containers from trucks to their designated location in the yard
  • Communicate regularly with supervisor and control room operator (radio, electronic communication, in person)
  • Assist with standard maintenance of the yard (sweep, shovel & pressure wash).
  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures
  • Foster a culture of safe behavior and environmental compliance at all times.
  • Maintain and advance the food safety and quality of POET's products and processes to deliver a best-in-class culture of quality.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
  • One (1) year relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Valid State Driver's License required.
  • High School Diploma, or GED required
  • Knowledge of various types of equipment and their controls.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and procedures.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills as well as the ability to embrace change.
  • You communicate effectively in writing and in person.
  • You have the ability to understand technical and day to day operation of a terminal facility.
  • Knowledge of the basics of the Microsoft Office Suite and the ability of learning new programs.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • This position is largely self-directed and requires a thorough understanding of company policy, procedures, and values. Team members will be required to adhere to all safety requirements at all times and in all work environments. The team member may be exposed to high noise levels, moving mechanical parts, dusty conditions, internal and external temperature/weather conditions, and chemicals.
  • This role has some physical requirements that our team members will need to be able to perform, such as:
    • Climbing flights of stairs and ladders.
    • Occasionally bending, twisting and turning while lifting weight of less than fifty (50) pounds.
    • Pushing brooms, shovels, etc.
    • Wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Due to the physical and safety sensitive nature of this job, you will be subject to a physical and expected to pass a drug screen during the pre-screen process. During employment, you'll be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
