Each of the more than 500 staff who work in the Office of the Attorney General are dedicated to serving all Delawareans with integrity and passion.\r\nDeputy Attorneys General, with critical support from criminal special investigators, victim service specialists, paraprofessionals, and administrative staff, prosecute criminal cases, enforce consumer laws, provide counsel to state agencies, ensure the public's access to open government, protect the abused, and much more.\r\n

Summary Statement

\r\nThe Delaware Department of Justice is looking for a highly motivated and committed Deputy Attorney General ("DAG") to provide general counsel to the Delaware Department of Labor ("DOL"), specifically the Division of Employment & Training, Division of Industrial Affairs, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, Office of Occupational & Labor Market Information, and the Industrial Accident Board.\r\n\r\nThe Division of Employment & Training operates a statewide labor exchange system, providing services that enable employers and job seekers to make informed employment and training choices that lead to employment. The Division of Industrial Affairs works with employees, employers, and youth workers to keep workplaces fair, safe, and equal, and handles wage and hour issues, worker safety concerns, discrimination claims, youth work permits, prevailing wage matters, and workers' compensation. The Division of Vocational Rehabilitation provides individualized services to assist Delawareans with disabilities in developing skill sets to prepare for, obtain, and maintain employment. The Office of Occupational & Labor Market Information analyzes and prepares reports on workforce, employment, economic and demographic data.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Essential Functions

The DOL general counsel DAG will serve as a subject matter expert in Delaware labor laws and be responsible for providing legal advice on matters related to Delaware labor laws. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing legal advice on matters related to drafting and reviewing legislation and regulations, procurement law compliance, drafting and reviewing contracts, requests for proposals, the Delaware Freedom of Information Act, personnel management, and representing DOL or DOL officers and employees in court and administrative proceedings. The DOL general counsel DAG may be requested to assist DOL in other matters and may handle additional assignments as directed by the Department of Justice.\r\n

Job Requirements

Membership in Delaware Bar is required. The most qualified candidates have some prior general counsel and labor law experience; however, such expertise and experience are not required for selection. The DAG should be able to work independently, meet deadlines, and communicate clearly with client agencies, and should have demonstrated legal ability and a thorough knowledge of relevant laws and court rules.\r\n\r\n\r\nThe DAG must have a willingness to travel within the state to meet departmental needs and meeting schedules.\r\n\r\n\r\n

This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement based on its individual terms.\r\n\r\n
