Location: Columbia, MD (with occasional work in Catonsville, MD)
Employment Type: Part-Time
Schedule: Afternoons, evenings, and some weekends
Compensation: Competitive hourly pay, based on experience
About Soundcheck Rock Academy

Soundcheck Rock Academy is Maryland’s leading performance-based music school — where students don’t just take lessons; they play in real bands, perform live shows, and grow as musicians and performers. We serve kids, teens, and adults through private instruction, group rehearsals, and live concert experiences. Our goal is simple: to build confidence, creativity, and community through music.
Position Overview

We are seeking a Band Manager to guide, inspire, and organize our student rock bands. The ideal candidate is energetic, organized, musically knowledgeable, and great with kids, teens. You’ll manage several student bands—helping them choose songs, organize rehearsals, prepare for live shows, and collaborate with instructors to ensure each student has a positive, rewarding experience.
This is a creative, people-centered role perfect for someone who loves music, teaching, and mentoring young performers.
Key Responsibilities

  • Manage 4–12 student bands (ages 8–Adult) during weekly rehearsals.
  • Facilitate song selection, arrangement, and setlist preparation for performances.
  • Communicate regularly with students, parents, and instructors about schedules, goals, and progress.
  • Coordinate performance logistics (shows, dress rehearsals, stage setup).
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to students—help them gain confidence on and off stage.
  • Maintain a fun, safe, and productive rehearsal environment.
  • Support instructors and staff with administrative or event tasks as needed.
Qualifications

  • Strong musical background (guitar, drums, bass, vocals, or keys preferred).
  • Band Experience

  • Experience managing or directing bands, teaching music, or working in music education.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Friendly, outgoing, and comfortable leading groups of kids/teens/adults.
  • Ability to work evenings and some weekends for performances.
  • Must be reliable, professional, and team-oriented.
Bonus Skills (not required, but a plus):

  • Live sound or basic recording experience.
  • Event planning or youth program coordination.
What We Offer

  • A creative, supportive work environment filled with passionate musicians.
  • Opportunities to perform, teach, and grow within the Soundcheck Rock Academy community.
  • Staff discounts on lessons and programs.
  • Being part of a mission-driven organization that changes lives through music.
