The University of Miami/UHealth Hussman Institute has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Postdoctoral Associate to work in Miami, Florida.
CORE JOB SUMMARY
The Postdoctoral Associate performs scientific research and studies under the supervision of managing staff. Moreover, the Postdoctoral Associate promotes institutional recognition through literal contributions to the scientific community.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Conducts research on specific areas of study as assigned.
2. Prepares research reports and technical papers for publishing.
3. Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories.
4. Maintains substantial knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories.
5. Develops advanced analytical models and systems and provides solutions and analyses to support strategic and tactical decisions.
6. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Department Specific Functions
1. Genetic and bioinformatic analysis of Alpha-1 Antitrypsin deficiency.
2. Strong proficiency in machine learning and statistical modeling, including development and validation of predictive models using large-scale data.
3. Proficiency in large language model (LLM) and natural language processing methods for analysis of unstructured clinical and biomedical data.
4. Experience with cloud-based and high-performance computing environments to support scalable data processing and model development.
5. Proficiency in Python and/or R for statistical analysis, machine learning, and biomedical data processing.
6. Design and execute end-to-end statistical and bioinformatic analyses integrating large-scale genomic and clinical datasets to identify genetic contributors to disease risk within the All of Us Research Program secure Researcher Workbench environment using R and/or Python.
7. Develop and apply machine learning and large language model (LLM) approaches to build interpretable, clinically relevant predictive tools for disease diagnosis and risk stratification.
8. Publish original research articles in conjunction with the principal investigators.
9. Confer with principal investigators to review work assignments and develop plans for research experiments; make minor modifications to existing laboratory procedures and techniques to meet the needs of the particular experiment as required.
10. Review journals, abstracts, and scientific literature to keep abreast of new developments and to obtain information regarding previous experiments to aid in the design and development of original procedures and techniques.
11. Seek independent funding from foundations and associations for pilot studies with the appropriate permission from leadership.
12. Develop and apply machine learning and large language model (LLM) approaches to build interpretable, clinically relevant predictive tools for disease diagnosis and risk stratification.
13. Prepare scientific progress reports for grant-funded projects (e.g., NIH RPPR), including summaries of aims, results, publications, and compliance with reporting requirements.
14. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
