Internship Computer Science Music information

What is an internship in computer science music?

An internship in Computer Science Music is a temporary position for students or recent graduates to gain practical experience at the intersection of technology and music. Interns may work on projects involving music software development, audio engineering, digital signal processing, or creating new tools for music composition and performance. These internships provide valuable hands-on experience, exposure to real-world challenges, and opportunities to build professional networks in both the music and tech industries. Typically, interns work under the guidance of experienced professionals and may contribute to research, coding, sound design, or multimedia projects.

How do computer science music interns typically collaborate with other departments or teams during their internship?

Computer Science Music interns often work closely with both technical and creative teams, such as software developers, sound engineers, and musicians. Collaboration usually involves participating in cross-functional meetings, contributing code to music-related software projects, and assisting with the integration of new audio technologies. This environment offers interns valuable exposure to both the technical and artistic aspects of music production, enhancing their communication and teamwork skills. Such collaboration is essential for developing innovative music tools and applications, and interns are encouraged to actively share ideas and seek feedback from diverse team members.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an intern in computer science with a focus on music?

To succeed as a Computer Science Music intern, a solid grasp of programming languages (such as Python or C++), basic music theory, and coursework in computer science or music technology is generally required. Familiarity with digital audio workstations (DAWs), music programming environments (like Max/MSP or Pure Data), and version control systems is highly beneficial. Creativity, problem-solving, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for collaborating on interdisciplinary projects and adapting quickly to new challenges. These competencies enable interns to contribute meaningfully to innovative music technology projects and bridge the gap between technical and artistic domains.

What is the difference between Internship Computer Science Music vs Software Developer?

AspectInternship Computer Science MusicSoftware Developer
Required CredentialsTypically pursuing or completed a degree in Computer Science, Music, or related fieldsBachelor's or higher in Computer Science or Software Engineering
Work EnvironmentMusic tech companies, educational institutions, or media organizationsTech firms, startups, or corporate IT departments
Industry UsageUsed for gaining experience in music software, audio programming, or multimedia projectsDeveloping applications, websites, or software solutions

In summary, Internship Computer Science Music focuses on gaining experience at the intersection of music and technology, often involving audio programming or multimedia projects. Software Developer roles are broader, emphasizing software creation across various industries. Both require programming skills but differ in industry focus and work environment.

Job description

Meta Reality Labs is looking for a computer vision engineer with background in machine learning, classical image analysis, 3D geometric modeling, feature extraction, and physics of imaging systems to lead projects on feature-based eye tracking and human eye simulation to power AR/VR eye tracking solutions in our products including the Quest line. This role collaborates with cross-functional teams on image simulation, core AI, computer graphics, machine vision research, and HW design. The immediate team for this role is composed of Computer Vision, Machine Learning and SW Engineers.
Computer Vision Engineer Responsibilities:
  • Lead development, refinement, and launch of CV/ML solutions for explicit and NERF-based simulation of eye and upper face images used in training of AR/VR eye tracking models and system evaluation
  • Explore, innovate, and leverage novel approaches, from internal and external sources, to improve the accuracy, performance, and generalizability of geometric and explicit optical models used in eye tracking pipelines
  • Contribute to data-driven and geometric modeling of eye imaging including NERF and Gaussian splatting for novel view synthesis, 3D graphical rendering of eye features, and classical feature and keypoint detection and extraction from eye and face images
  • Drive cross-functional collaborations with partner teams including but not limited to physics simulation, ML modeling, hardware development, and product design
  • Contribute to recruitment, mentoring, onboarding, and growing ML engineers/scientists, interns, and contractors

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Background in computer vision, classical image processing, and 2D/3D spatial data analysis
  • Experience with computer graphics, and physics-based/geometric modeling
  • Working knowledge of imaging systems and optics simulation
  • Direct background in machine learning, deep learning, neural networks and similar data-driven techniques
  • Experience mentoring and acting as project technical lead

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with latest graphics techniques such as NERF and Gaussian splatting
  • Experience in eye and face simulation and image generation
  • Knowledge of eye tracking techniques and models
  • Master's or PhD in engineering, physics, or computer science
  • Background in AR/VR
  • Familiarity with procedural rendering engines, ray tracing, and path tracing
