Job description

Description
The Computer/Data Scientist will support the design, development, maintenance, and implementation of advanced artificial intelligence (AI) solutions within the Reactor Servicing Directorate. This position focuses on applying retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and large language models (LLMs) to enhance information retrieval and enable the creation of detailed safety documents and operational procedures. The work builds upon an already established computational model that serves as the foundation for further AI integration and expansion. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to the next generation of intelligent systems supporting reactor servicing operations. The successful candidate will advance AI and data science integration to improve safety, efficiency, and knowledge management within mission-critical engineering environments.
Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain AI and data-driven systems to support safety documentation and operational procedure generation using existing reactor servicing data.
  • Implement retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) techniques and integrate large language models (LLMs) for intelligent data extraction, synthesis, and knowledge generation.
  • Develop, test, and deploy scalable applications aligned with existing computational models.
  • Design and build interactive visualization interfaces using Plotly Dash for data analysis and operational insights.
  • Write, optimize, and maintain efficient Python code for AI workflows and automation.
  • Package, containerize, and deploy large-scale AI and data science applications for production use.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering and IT teams to ensure AI tools meet performance, reliability, and compliance requirements.

Qualifications
  • Must have active DOE L clearance or a DoD Secret clearance to be considered.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Proficiency in Python programming and computer science fundamentals.
  • Hands-on experience with retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and integration with word processing systems.
  • Strong background in Natural Language Processing (NLP), including:
    • Large Language Models (LLMs)
    • Clustering, vectorization, and embedding methods
    • Tokenization and prompt engineering
    • Model tuning and temperature optimization
  • Experience developing front-end applications using Plotly Dash.
  • Demonstrated ability in project packaging and large-scale AI system deployment.
  • Potential for telework up to 10%.

Desired:
  • Experience applying AI to large or complex data environments.
  • Familiarity with tools and frameworks such as Open WebUI, Haystack, and data logging systems.
  • Knowledge of testing, asynchronous programming, and neural network architectures (including deep learning and transformers).
  • Understanding of containerization technologies (e.g., OpenShift, Kubernetes).
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • 3+ years of experience in Natural Language Processing (NLP) and applied AI development.

Pay Scale:
  • 5-9 years of experience - $120,000-$127,000
  • 10+ years of experience - $128,000-$145,000

Salary Range
