Job description

Airtech International is offering an exciting internship opportunity for a motivated and detail-oriented Materials Testing Intern to support our R&D Materials Testing Laboratory. This internship provides hands-on experience in mechanical, thermal, and chemical testing of developmental engineering polymer compounds. Working under the guidance of the Materials Testing Lab Manager and experienced technicians, the intern will assist in the preparation, execution, and documentation of various material tests that support product development and innovation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in the setup and execution of standardized material tests including mechanical, thermal, and chemical evaluations.
  • Prepare test samples and ensure proper labeling, documentation, and tracking.
  • Operate laboratory instruments under supervision, such as tensile testers, thermal analyzers (DSC/TGA), viscometers, and spectroscopic tools (FTIR).
  • Record test data accurately and assist in basic data analysis and report preparation.
  • Help maintain a clean and safe laboratory environment by following safety protocols and best practices.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to discussions on testing methods and improvements.
  • Gain practical experience with lab equipment and testing procedures relevant to polymer materials.
  • Understand the principles of mechanical, thermal, and chemical material characterization.
  • Develop familiarity with technical documentation, lab safety, and Good Laboratory Practices.
  • Improve communication, teamwork, and time management skills in a real-world R&D environment.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelorโ€™s or Graduate degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other related field.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
  • Basic knowledge of laboratory safety and material testing concepts.
  • Good communication and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with technical lab software is a plus.

Additional Requirements:

  • Availability to work on-site for a minimum of 10 hours per week during the internship period.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs and stand for extended periods as needed.
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future.
