Job description

Location: Burlington, Canada

Our Team

Semtech's New Product Introduction (NPI) Product Engineering Team is the central engineering function behind every new product we bring to market. Our team of focused and talented engineers takes full ownership of new product development - driving each program from conception through end-of-life with a commitment to flawless execution. Working closely with all internal cross-functional teams, our engineers define and drive DfT testability requirements, test coverage, production characterization (across process, voltage, and temperature variations), ATE-to-bench correlation, cost and yield optimization, test time reduction, project logistics, and seamless transfer to full-volume manufacturing. We take pride in delivering high-quality products that exceed customer expectations and drive business success - and our versatile, results-driven team makes it happen.

Job Summary:

Engineering Interns are an integral part of Semtech's Engineering team, provided with experiences that are both technically challenging and educationally stimulating. This role supports new product development activities - from early-stage development through production transfer - working closely with senior engineers and cross-functional teams to build foundational skills and contribute to program success. Under the guidance of senior engineering staff, the intern will participate in a wide variety of tasks associated with research, design projects, and product transfers to offshore production facilities. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated engineering student eager to develop deep technical expertise in high-performance optical, analog/mixed-signal semiconductor IC products in cutting-edge CMOS and BiCMOS technologies.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop technical skills and product knowledge under technical mentorship and guidance from senior engineers.
  • Learn and follow New Product Introduction (NPI) processes and procedures, assisting senior engineers in maintaining documentation compliance.
  • Work closely with senior engineers in developing product characterization plans for wafer-level and bench testing, gaining exposure to test coverage requirements across product specifications, operating conditions, and data-driven limit-setting processes.
  • Utilize state-of-the-art ATE and lab equipment to collect and analyze device data, ensuring products meet specifications and manufacturability targets before production release.
  • Develop analytical skills through hands-on ATE and lab data analysis of Semtech's high-performance mixed-signal IC products, supporting product characterization, correlation, and release activities while contributing to the execution and adherence to product specifications and quality standards.
  • Review and help optimize test coverage, test limits, and guard banding under senior engineers' guidance, applying best engineering practices to improve overall test efficiency, test time and test cost.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with diverse engineering and functional groups to improve product yield, quality, and specification compliance.
  • Generate comprehensive reports and presentations with creative and clear analysis methods that highlight the relationships between process, voltage, temperature and device performance.

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical and/or Computer Engineering, with at least 3 years of coursework completed
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present data and findings clearly
  • Must be methodical, organized and have the ability adapt to shifting priorities in a fast-paced engineering environment
  • Self-motivated with the initiative to take ownership of assigned tasks and follow through with minimal supervision
  • Safety-conscious with clean, orderly work habits and a methodical approach to engineering tasks
  • Collaborative team player who works effectively with individuals of diverse personalities, backgrounds, and skill levels
