Summary:

Trident Seafoods is seeking a cybersecurity intern to support the vulnerability management, governance, risk management, and compliance functions of our risk-based information security program. This is a hands-on internship for a student who wants to learn how a cybersecurity program is actually run.

Working as part of our cybersecurity team, you will help maintain our cybersecurity policies, research compliance requirements in the US and EU, gather cross functional input, assist with risk assessments, and contribute to our company-wide security awareness program. You will gain practical exposure to the frameworks and regulatory drivers shaping a global seafood company's security posture, including our EU operations' obligations under the NIS2 Directive. You will learn about security configurations through Azure, SharePoint, and M365 and help identify areas for improvement.

Essential Functions: (Responsibilities, Tasks, Supervisory Needs)

  • Assists in maintaining the cybersecurity policy, standard, and process library, including formatting, version control, review tracking, and routing documents through the approval cycle.
  • Supports control assessments and gap analyses against the NIST Cybersecurity Framework 2.0 and related control families (e.g., Awareness and Training, Personnel Security, Program Management).
  • Supports risk assessments, including reviewing security questionnaires, summarizing findings, and maintaining the vendor assessment tracker.
  • Contributes to the security awareness and training program through content development, phishing simulation reporting, and campaign metrics.
  • Builds and maintains compliance dashboards, trackers, and metrics reporting for leadership.
  • Researches regulatory and framework developments (e.g., NIST, NIS2, GDPR, CCPA/CPRA privacy regulations) and summarizes potential impacts for the team.
  • Coordinates with departments to ensure follow up and remediation of penetration test findings.
  • Works with IT to assist in patch management and remediation of known vulnerabilities.

Required Qualifications: (Education, Years of Experience, Certifications)

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated with a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Security, Information Systems, Computer Science, Risk Management, Business, or a related field
  • Demonstrated interest in cybersecurity governance, risk, compliance, audit, or policy through coursework, certifications, clubs, competitions, or personal study.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Strong written communication skills and attention to detail, with the ability to produce clear, well-organized documentation.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion and sound judgment.
  • Available to work at least 20 hours per week during the internship term.

 

Preferred Education & Experiences:

  • Coursework or familiarity with security frameworks and standards such as NIST Cybersecurity Framework, NIST SP 800-53, ISO 27001, or CIS Controls.
  • Exposure to regulatory or privacy requirements such as GDPR, NIS2, CCPA, PCI DSS, or SOX.
  • Entry-level cybersecurity certification or active pursuit of one (e.g., CompTIA Security+, ISC2 Certified in Cybersecurity, Microsoft SC-900).
  • Experience with data organization or reporting such as Excel pivot tables, Power BI dashboards, or Smartsheet
  • Experience using AI tools and agents such as Microsoft Copilot
  • Prior internship, work-study, help desk, or student-organization experience in IT, audit, risk, or compliance.
  • Membership or engagement with an information security professional association or student chapter.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to track multiple concurrent workstreams and deadlines.
