Job Description
The Office of Engineering Career Services invites applications for a student-focused professional for the position of Career Development Specialist. The Office of Engineering Career Services works collaboratively to provide professional development and employment opportunities for students and represents the College of Engineering to employers (including alumni) seeking to recruit Engineering students.
Under the supervision of the Associate Dean and Director of Recruitment and Retention, the Career Development Specialist will support students in professional skill development, assist with internship and job search processes, and other career-related concerns.
Duties:
• Supports College of Engineering student organizations including advising, budget proposal process, and travel support.
• Coordinates the College of Engineering student organization annual budget proposal process and bi-annual trainings.
• Advises engineering students in resume refinement and internship search.
• Under supervision, maintains knowledge of the industry of engineering, particularly information related to internship, co-op, and full-time positions and competitive regional companies employing Mizzou Engineering students.
• Collaborates Handshake student-facing functions (employment opportunity notifications (newsletter), resume reviews, event promotion, etc.).
• Collaborates with Engineering Marketing and Communications to promote employment opportunities in This Week in Engineering.
• Supports Outcomes survey data collection (following each term) and experiential education survey (fall semester). Works with campus Outcomes staff to coordinate data collection and publishing.
• Collaborates with other team members on critical projects as needed, including but not limited to employer relations support, the Career Readiness program, and the MU Career Center.
• Responds to student questions through muecs@missouri.edu (ECS resource account).
• Lead ECS representative in classroom visits and Engineering events (New Student BBQ, Family Weekend, Summer Welcome, Welcome Week, etc.) to promote Engineering Career Services.
• Other duties as assigned.
Shift
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., with occasional events and travel required outside of normal hours. Regular onsite work is required.
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
Masters degree in Humanities, Business, Education or related field preferred.
Familiarity with the engineering industry and corporate recruitment practices.
Familiarity with internship and co-ops for engineering students. Bachelor's
Ability and willingness to multitask.
Skilled in written and verbal communication.
Experience working in higher education and interest in STEM education and career paths.
Anticipated Hiring Range
Salary Range: $20.00 - $27.00 per hour
Grade: GGS-008
