Job description

We are looking for a Designer to create commercial kitchen layouts, rough-ins, and elevations, while also contributing to the interior design side of each project — finishes, furniture, and space planning. You'll work directly with chefs, owners, architects, and contractors to bring foodservice spaces from concept to construction-ready drawings.

This is an in-person position based in Virginia Beach, VA.

Responsibilities:

Foodservice Design

  • Create plans, elevations, and detail drawings for foodservice facilities, including electrical, plumbing, and blocking rough-in drawings
  • Conduct site visits to field-verify existing equipment, space conditions, and documentation
  • Conduct site visits to confirm proper locations of roughed-in plumbing and electrical for foodservice areas
  • Prepare conceptual designs of custom equipment for quoting (worktables, shelving, etc.)
  • Review shop drawings for accuracy, errors, or omissions
  • Coordinate with architects, MEP engineers, general contractors, and subcontractors on the foodservice component of each project

Interior Design

  • Interpret and evaluate client requirements to guide successful project design
  • Research concepts and materials to support the design team on technical issues influencing interior design concept development
  • Advise on the implementation of design concepts and materials with respect to aesthetics, maintenance, lifecycle, and cost
  • Perform site visits and as-builts with senior supervision
  • Review material submittals and shop drawing submittals related to the interior scope
  • Present and sell design concepts to clients, building the confidence needed for efficient, on-time, on-budget decision-making

Project & Team Collaboration

  • Collaborate with FSDC team members to establish goals and project schedules
  • Collaborate with clients, owners, chefs, and other foodservice operation team members throughout each project
  • Collaborate with, advise, and direct consultants as needed to keep each project on track for design, budget, and schedule
  • Other tasks and projects as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related field (required)
  • 3+ years of recent, consistent AutoCAD and Revit experience (required)
  • 2+ years of architectural or design experience, including exposure to commercial interiors (required)
  • Valid driver's license (required — role includes regular site visits)
  • Ability to read and understand architectural construction documents/drawings
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat
  • Experience with space planning, design detailing, and finish and furniture selections

Nice to Have

  • BIM standards/techniques experience
  • Restaurant experience or a strong interest in the restaurant/hospitality industry
  • Commercial foodservice equipment design experience
  • Familiarity with AutoQuotes, KCL, or Adobe Creative Suite
  • 3D visualization and modeling program experience
  • NCIDQ, LEED, or WELL certification

Skills We Value

  • Strong relationship-building, written, and oral communication skills
  • Attention to detail and appreciation for creative, thoughtful design
  • Strong organizational, creative, and presentation skills
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Self-starter who consistently meets deadlines with accuracy
  • Strong time management
  • Career-motivated with a drive to grow within the role
