Job description

Overview Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Technologist (MT), under supervision, performs tests in the clinical laboratory across areas as defined by HCFA, with appropriate training. Requires ASCP certification or eligibility. Generalist experience preferred with strengths in Hematology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, and Coagulation (preferred but not required). Qualifications MLT or MT – ASCP certified or ASCP eligible Generalist experience preferred, with strength in Hematology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, and Coagulation (preferred but not required) Training Training in Corpus Christi, TX is required. Schedule Shift: Days Primary Schedule: Monday-Friday, 4:00am - 12:30pm Additional Coverage: Rotational weekends, rotational holidays, and occasional shift coverage as needed Rotational participation in the disaster team General purpose of job The registered Medical Laboratory Technician or Medical Technologist, under supervision of Medical Director, Administrative Director, Manager, Lead and Senior, performs tests in the clinical laboratory with appropriate training. Performs highly complex procedures and manual and automated laboratory assays requiring independent judgment. Reports results to nurses and physicians, relating results to normal ranges for age and recognizing and reporting critical values. Essential duties and responsibilities Maintain confidentiality and adhere to hospital policies and procedures Responsible for specific role during internal and external CODE and disaster occurrences Ensure compliance with infection control, safety, and security procedures Operate the Pneumatic Tube System appropriately and ensure specimen integrity Comply with IOP/CQI issues; ensure supplies are stocked and restocked across all shifts Communicate with physicians and/or nurses on laboratory findings, timing and availability of results Notify section chief/Administrative Director if policies are violated Represent the laboratory section to committees, physicians, nursing staff, support staff and patients Perform duties of the medical laboratory technician; revise and review procedure manuals per NCCLS guidelines Evaluate and validate new reagents, equipment and procedures per policies and regulatory guidelines Maintain knowledge of new technology and make recommendations when appropriate Maintain specimen identification and integrity; operate and perform quality control on equipment Maintain safety and protective attire per policies Maintain adequate laboratory coverage to provide patient care, including last-minute schedule changes Promote teamwork; comfortable with pediatric hospital setting (patients under 18) Perform other duties as assigned Education and/or experience Medical Laboratory Technician: AS degree; one year of formal course work beyond AS in Medical Laboratory Technology (Clinical Internship) Medical Technologist: BS degree; one year of formal course work beyond Bachelor's (Clinical Internship) Certification MLT (ASCP) within one year from date of hire MT (ASCP) within one year from date of hire #J-18808-Ljbffr
