About the Role
At Leatherman, we build tools that last a lifetime-and we're looking for skilled operators to help make that happen.
As a Machine Operator, you'll set up and operate a variety of advanced manufacturing equipment, including CNC machines, multi-axis milling machines, and robotic systems. This role goes beyond basic operation-you'll be trusted to handle complex setups, maintain tight tolerances, and help drive quality and efficiency across the production floor.
What You'll Do
  • Set up and operate a variety of machines including Fanuc and Allen Bradley 4-axis milling machines with robotic loading, grinders, polishers, presses, and CNC equipment
  • Perform complex, non-routine setups and changeovers to meet tight tolerances and intricate part geometry
  • Monitor machine performance and make mechanical or program adjustments to ensure quality and output goals are met
  • Conduct quality inspections and audits using precision measuring tools
  • Troubleshoot issues and recommend process improvements to enhance productivity and quality
  • Support and train team members as needed
  • Follow all safety procedures, including OSHA standards, Lockout/Tagout, and proper handling of chemicals and materials

Safety & Compliance
  • Adhere to all environmental, health, and safety regulations
  • Properly handle, label, and dispose of hazardous materials
  • Use required PPE and report any safety concerns immediately
  • Participate in ongoing safety and compliance training

What You Bring
  • High School diploma or GED required
  • 3+ years of machining or technical manufacturing experience (5+ preferred)
  • Experience with advanced machine setup, changeovers, and troubleshooting
  • Strong understanding of CNC machining and/or robotic systems
  • Ability to read blueprints and technical documentation
  • Experience using precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges, etc.)
  • Basic shop math and computer skills
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing, SPC, or CMM/Keyence systems is a plus

What Sets You Apart
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Ability to work independently and solve complex problems
  • A continuous improvement mindset
  • Willingness to support and mentor others

Why Leatherman
  • Work for an iconic, Portland-based manufacturer known for quality and innovation
  • Be part of a team that values craftsmanship, collaboration, and continuous improvement
  • Competitive pay, benefits, and opportunities for growth

If you enjoy working with precision equipment and take pride in producing high-quality products, we'd love to hear from you.
