Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Academy

Adventist HealthCare seeks to hire students for our Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Academy who will embrace our mission to extend God's care through the ministry of physical, mental, and spiritual healing. The next two cohorts will start on July 6th and September 14th. Upon successful completion of the six-week course, including clinicals, and receiving certification as a licensed CNA from the Maryland Board of Nursing, you will be promoted to a department at one of our four acute care entities: Shady Grove Medical Center (Rockville), White Oak Medical Center (Silver Spring), AHC Rehabilitation (Acute Rehab - Rockville), or Fort Washington Medical Center (Fort Washington).

As a CNA Student, you will:

  • Desire certification as a nursing assistant and engage in professional development through participation in the Adventist HealthCare Certified Nursing Assistant Training Program.
  • Develop the clinical competence required of the certified nursing assistant (CNA) role, leading to successful performance in the CNA role at Adventist HealthCare.
  • Develop clinical competence through a variety of modalities, including classroom, simulation, and clinical application of learning on patient care units (clinical hours overseen by educator). Clinical competence includes technical skills (example: VS, Accu-check, mobility devices, activities of daily living, feeding) and interpersonal skills (example: building relationships with patients and team members).
  • Demonstrate a positive outlook on safety, lifelong learning, professionalism, and patient experience throughout the program.

Qualifications include:

  • High School diploma required
  • English proficiency: reading, writing, and spoken required
  • Background check for healthcare employees required
  • Basic computer skills required

Work Schedule:

Program Guidelines and Requirements:

  • Six-week CNA training program; 4 weeks of coursework and 2 weeks of clinical
  • Class schedule (4 weeks) - Monday - Friday 8am - 4:30pm at Shady Grove Medical Center Sim Lab in Rockville
  • Clinical schedule (2 weeks) - [3] 12-hour shifts per week - split between Shady Grove Medical Center (Rockville) and White Oak Medical Center (Silver Spring)
  • Completion once the trainee completes all training program requirements (coursework + clinicals) and receives a CNA license by the Maryland Board of Nursing after passing the state board exam.

CNA graduates will continue employment at one of the [4} AHC assigned entities as a licensed CNA at one of:

  • Shady Grove Medical Center (Rockville)
  • White Oak Medical Center (Silver Spring)
  • AHC Rehabilitation Hospital (Rockville)
  • Fort Washington Medical Center (Ft. Washington)
  • AHC employment commitment of 12 months as a licensed CNA

This is for one of the cohorts 23 or 24, starting either July 6th or September 14th, 2026.

• CNA trainees are full time compensated AHC employees

• Quality classroom learning experience, so trainees learn best practices for clinical outcomes and patient experience

• Real-life clinical training in a hospital setting so trainees can learn practical, real-world skills

• Training materials and two sets of scrubs are provided

• No prior patient care experience is necessary

Pay Range:

$18.00 - $22.79

If the salary range is listed as $0 or if the position is Per Diem (with a fixed rate), salary discussions will take place during the screening process.
