Full-time Clinical track or Tenure track faculty position in Small Animal Community Practice. The faculty member is primarily responsible for providing client and patient services to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital in the Community Practice service. The faculty member will provide clinical and laboratory instruction to veterinary students, graduate students, interns, and graduate veterinarians in small-animal community practice and related disciplines. Primary teaching focus includes the clinical phase of the four-year veterinary curriculum as well as some instruction within the preclinical curriculum. The successful candidate will join a team of passionate faculty educators, technicians, veterinary assistants and interns. The Community Practice service is supported by diagnostic imaging (radiographs, ultrasound, computed tomography) and a full-service diagnostic laboratory that includes clinical pathology, parasitology, microbiology, histopathology and necropsy. Additional clinical units in the Small Animal Teaching Hospital include small-animal internal medicine, small-animal emergency and critical care, small-animal surgery, dentistry, and dermatology.
Participate in the tripartite mission of teaching, research, and service. Provide routine wellness care and sick patient care and interact with other services as needed. Participate in and develop innovative teaching and service programs to enhance the Department, the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH), and the College. Participate in clinical and laboratory instruction for and supervision and evaluation of veterinary students and interns with hands-on instruction and case-based rounds or small-group didactic sessions. Participate in providing client services to the VTH, with emphasis on, but not limited to, Small Animal Community Practice. Develop strong professional relationships (advising and consulting) with referring veterinarians and clients. Participate in the supervision of staff assigned to the Small Animal Community Practice Section. Develop collaborative research activities in areas related to Community Practice. Engage in collaborative research activities in the College, the University and/or with collaborating colleges and universities. Participate in local, state, and national outreach (community) activities and programs. Demonstrate creative scholarship. Serve on Department, College and/or University committees. Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, and work collaboratively with others (faculty, staff, students) in a collegial, diverse team environment. Perform other duties as assigned.
Must have a DVM or equivalent degree and a license to practice Veterinary Medicine. Clinical experience and documented competency in small animal community practice are required. Completion of a rotating internship or 1-2 years of quality small-animal clinical experience is preferred.
Advanced small-animal clinical expertise in companion-animal medicine, diagnosis, treatment, preventive care, and routine procedures. Strong clinical teaching skills with the ability to teach DVM students through lectures, demonstrations, laboratories, clinical rounds, and hands-on patient care. Community veterinary practice expertise, including wellness care, client education, preventive medicine, dentistry, dermatology, diagnostics, and management of common companion-animal conditions. Clinical decision-making and problem-solving skills in evaluating patients, developing treatment plans, and managing complex cases. Leadership– Demonstrates academic and clinical leadership and serves as a positive role model for students and colleagues. Clinical excellence– Maintains a high standard of compassionate, evidence-based patient care. Commitment to teaching– Demonstrates enthusiasm for educating and developing future veterinarians.
