Job description

Job Summary:
We are seeking a Firefighter to join the Seward County Rural Fire Department. This position is responsible for protecting lives, property, and the environment by responding to fire, rescue, medical, hazardous materials, and other emergency and non-emergency incidents. The Firefighter performs a variety of duties to support emergency response operations, fire prevention efforts, public safety, and department readiness.


Essential Functions:

1. Responds to fire, medical, rescue, hazardous materials, and other emergency calls
2. Suppresses structural, wildland, vehicle, and other fires using established firefighting techniques and equipment
3. Performs rescue operations involving vehicle extrication, confined spaces, high-angle rescue, and other specialized incidents as trained
4. Inspects, maintains, tests, and cleans firefighting apparatus, vehicles, equipment, and facilities
5. Participates in regular training exercises, drills, and continuing education to maintain required certifications and proficiency
6. Conducts fire prevention inspections and assist with public education and community outreach programs
7. Completes incident reports and maintain accurate records of emergency responses, inspections, and training activities
8. Operates fire apparatus and emergency equipment safely when authorized
9. Assists with station maintenance, housekeeping, inventory, and equipment readiness
10. Enforces and maintains compliance with all federal, state and local laws and ordinances
11. Performs other duties as assigned or deemed necessary
12. Complies with all organizational and departmental policies and procedures
13. Operates all job-related equipment, machinery, tools and other aids as required or needed
14. Protects and maintains any confidential information you have access to, whether oral, written, or electronic

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

1. High School Diploma or other equivalent

2. Valid Driver's License required or attainable within 30 days of hire
3. Firefighter I Training program within 1 year of hire date - Preferably Firefighter II
4. Current CPAT Certification
5. Current Fire Team Certification

6. Complete IS100, IS200, IS700, and IS800 within 1 year of hire date

7. Complete National Registry EMT course within 2 years of hire date
8. Ability to pass background check, physical examination, drug & alcohol screening, and physical agility assessment
