In a major sports market, fans expect high-energy, accurate, and deeply engaging coverage. We are looking for a versatile, sharp, and highly motivated Sports Producer (Per Diem) to help anchor our sports coverage across broadcast, streaming, and digital platforms.

This role is for a true multimedia specialist who can line-produce a polished studio show, drop everything to cover a breaking local sports story, shoot game highlights, and deliver unscripted live-stream content from the field. If you live and breathe sports and thrive under the pressure of a live control room, we want you on our team.

The Role: What You'll Do

You will wear multiple hats-frequently within the same shift-to ensure our sports coverage dominates the market.

  • Show Production: Line-produce long-form sports programs and daily sportscasts, writing fast-paced conversational scripts and coordinating dynamic graphic elements.

  • Content Gathering: Hit the field to interview athletes and coaches, shoot game highlights, and edit high-impact feature packages on tight deadlines.

  • Live Streaming & Hosting: Present extended, unscripted live coverage from the field using mobile journalism gear, as well as reporting live in-studio or from major sports venues.

  • Enterprise Reporting: Use your local and national sports contacts to break stories, develop fresh feature angles, and actively contribute to daily sports department planning.

  • Digital Strategy: Write compelling text copy for our digital platforms and optimize sports content for our website and social media channels.

  • Travel Operations: Travel on short-notice or overnight assignments-domestically or internationally-and utilize file-based systems to feed material back to the station.

What You Bring to the Table

We are looking for a self-starting sports journalist with extensive knowledge of local and national teams.

  • The Broadcast Edge: Exceptional sports writing skills with a mastery of conversational copy, immaculate grammar, and a deep understanding of show pacing.

  • Technical Versatility: Proven capability to independently shoot, edit, and transmit video from remote locations without direct supervision.

  • On-Camera/Mic Delivery: Excellent communication skills and the poise required to handle unscripted live reporting and major market press conferences.

  • Deadline Agility: The ability to prioritize tasks and maintain absolute accuracy under the intense time constraints of live sports television.

Education & Experience

  • Experience: Two (2) years of experience producing or reporting sports for a commercial television station or regional sports network (RSN) is preferred.

  • Education: Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in Journalism, Communications, or a related field is preferred.

  • Drone Operations: Experience with commercial drone flight operations (FAA Part 107) is a strong plus.

Requirements

  • Must have a valid driver's license and a clean driving record.

  • Must have (or be able to quickly obtain) a valid passport for international travel.

  • Flexibility to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays to align with major sporting events.

Why Join Our Sports Team?

As a per diem producer in a Top 10 market, you will have access to professional and collegiate sports ecosystems at the highest level. This is a premier platform to showcase your hustle, keep your technical skills sharp, and contribute to an award-winning team that sets the standard for local sports coverage.

We are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, gender identity, disability, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
