Description

The Wilmot Cancer Institute at the University of Rochester Medical Center is seeking a full-time Genetic Counselor to join our team at the Pluta Cancer Center.

The Hereditary Cancer Screening and Risk Reduction Program is a unique and innovative multidisciplinary team designed to provide cancer risk assessment, genetic testing, and long-term follow-up for patients and families with an increased risk of cancer.

Duties include pre-visit history taking, pedigree creation and risk assessment, pre- and post-genetic testing counseling, selection and coordination of genetic testing, informed consent for testing, interpreting and conveying test results while managing psychosocial impact, interactions with family support groups, and literature review for both adult and pediatric patients.

The candidate will have opportunities for research, teaching, and community outreach. Continuing education is also supported.

Qualifications

Candidates should have a Master's degree in Genetic Counseling from an ACGC Accredited Program and should be ABGC board-certified. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of experience in cancer genetics. Applicants should have excellent communication skills in regard to both patients and colleagues. Applicants should have a history of high ethical standards, respect for patient autonomy and confidentiality, and dedication to the best interests of the patient in all duties. Applicants should be flexible, innovative, and creative to meet the needs of patients in a fast-paced cancer genetics service.

The referenced pay range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the base range of compensation for this faculty position. Individual salaries will be determined within the job's salary range and established based on (but not limited to) market data, experience and expertise of the individual, and with consideration to related position salaries. Alignment of clinical incentive-based compensation may also be applicable and will be discussed during the hiring process.
