ROLE OVERVIEW:
The Systems Engineer will participate in the delivery, implementation, and maintenance of system and network solutions to support the continuous operations of AIS and its affiliated companies. From design to operations, this person will be an integral part of the gathering of network requirements, development of planning and design documents, and the implementation of solutions to support company needs. Will be responsible for the performance and availability of server & network services including monitoring, installing, testing, maintaining, troubleshooting, securing server & network equipment and facilities.
The Systems engineer will need comprehensive documentation skills to manage, maintain, and troubleshoot complex IT environments. This documentation should cover network infrastructure, system configurations, security protocols, and operational procedures. Key areas include device details, network topology, security policies, and incident response plans.
This position will report to the Vice President of IT and will be part of a team of systems and network infrastructure engineers that deliver solutions which are always available. Because we are a multinational corporation operating around the clock in one place or another, he/she must also be willing to be on call to provide support and scheduled off-hour maintenance services in a 24x7 environment as necessary. This is an in-office position located in our Houston, Texas office.
It is required that this position understands and adheres to all Company policies including but not limited to security, trade secrets and confidentiality of all information.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Infrastructure & Network Engineering
Design, deploy, and maintain functional networks (LAN, WLAN, WAN), including the installation, setup, and configuration of switches and LAN devices with VLAN routing and switching.
Configure and install servers and SANs and implement and maintain VMware and Site Recovery/replication (SRA) environments.
Administer SonicWall firewalls and ZTNA and set up and maintain site-to-site and client-to-server VPN systems.
Monitor network performance, capacity, and integrity, and recommend improvements to performance, capacity, and scalability.
Support migration from internally hosted infrastructure to colocation and cloud services, including Microsoft 365 and Amazon Web Services (EC2).
Data Center & Facilities
Maintain Data Center operational integrity and ensure equipment reliability through regular maintenance and break-fix support.
Monitor and manage Data Center backup power, including UPS maintenance and generator reliability.
Manage and monitor facility security systems - access controls, CCTV/camera systems, and fire suppression - issue facility access badges and conduct physical security checks.
Service Desk & End-User Support
Serve as the first point of contact for end-user support requests received via phone, Microsoft Teams, and email; log, track, and resolve all work as tickets in the IT service desk system; and escalate unresolved issues to the appropriate tier.
Provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 support for laptops, desktops, and mobile devices (Windows, macOS, and iOS), and troubleshoot core business applications, including email, collaboration, file storage, and other line-of-business software.
Support printers and VPN clients, deliver remote and on-site issue resolution, and locate or remotely wipe lost or stolen devices.
Perform initial setup and imaging of laptops and desktops for new and replacement deployments.
Maintain and administer phone systems.
Maintain technical documentation, knowledge base articles, and standard operating procedures for recurring requests.
Identity, Access & Security Operations
Manage the full user account lifecycle - creation, changes, and offboarding (session revocation, account disable, and mailbox transfer) - across Active Directory and multiple Microsoft 365 / Entra ID tenants, including hybrid environments.
Perform password and multi-factor authentication resets, and manage license, group, and distribution list assignments.
Review sign-in and user risk reports, remediate confirmed threats (forced password reset, session revocation), document dispositions, and escalate suspicious or unusual activity.
Create, oversee, and test security measures such as access authentication and disaster recovery, and support Information Security requirements and documentation.
Endpoint, SaaS & Mobile Management
Manage endpoint devices through a mobile device management platform (e.g., Microsoft Intune), including enrollment, compliance remediation, application deployment, and secure wipe or retire at offboarding.
Administer the user lifecycle across third-party SaaS platforms, including provisioning, deactivation, and single sign-on access.
Provision and recycle corporate mobile lines, associate devices, maintain device and SIM records, and keep the mobile line inventory current.
Operations, Reporting & Coordination
Resolve issues escalated by other support tiers and by the NOC team by troubleshooting cloud and local infrastructure.
Automate routine tasks and monitor their effectiveness.
Prepare and deliver recurring operational reporting - ticket volume, open issues, escalations, and risk and security summaries - to keep leadership informed.
Coordinate with OEM vendors (e.g., Dell, Cisco, PURE) for technical updates and part replacements; procure hardware, software, and licenses; and work with accounting to approve and monitor IT-related invoices.
Interact with clients, support and attend client audits, and resolve audit findings.
Mentor team members on technical issues.
Availability & Travel
Available 24x7 via phone, Microsoft Teams, and email to support end users, monitor systems, and respond immediately to IT emergencies and outages.
Ready to travel to Company offices in Texas (TX) and Oklahoma (OK) at immediate notice to provide on-site support, as required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Communicates job expectations, plan work, monitor and appraise results and establish priorities.
Ensure employees achieve business goals and agreed development goals.
Manage direct reports and ensure all responsibilities are effectively and successfully completed.
Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
QUALIFICATIONS:
10 to 15 years of experience in IT, IT security and physical.
Experience in vendor.
Strong documentation.
Must be able to pass a 10-year background check and drug
Technology-related associate's degree or 5 to 6 years of equivalent training.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write emails, speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups and clients.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
