What is an internship business management graduate?

Internship Business Management Graduates are recent university graduates who participate in internship programs focused on business management. These internships provide hands-on experience in various business functions such as marketing, finance, operations, and human resources. The aim is to help graduates apply theoretical knowledge in real-world settings, develop professional skills, and gain insights into the workings of businesses. Such internships can serve as a stepping stone to full-time management roles and often involve mentorship, project work, and networking opportunities.

What types of projects and responsibilities can I expect during an internship in business management?

As an Internship Business Management Graduate, you can expect to work on a variety of projects such as market research, process improvement initiatives, data analysis, and assisting in the development of business strategies. Interns often rotate through different departments, collaborating closely with teams in marketing, finance, and operations to gain a broad understanding of business functions. You'll likely attend meetings, prepare reports, and contribute to presentations, giving you hands-on experience and exposure to real-world business challenges. This role offers a unique opportunity to build professional skills, network with other professionals, and explore potential areas for future specialization within the company.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an internship business management graduate, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Internship Business Management Graduate, you should have a solid understanding of business fundamentals, analytical skills, and a relevant degree or ongoing studies in business or a related field. Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, project management tools, and data analysis software is often required. Strong communication, teamwork, and adaptability are standout soft skills in this role. These skills and qualities are crucial for effectively contributing to business projects, learning quickly, and adding value to the organization during the internship.

This is a hybrid role with the flexibility to work both virtually and from our Montreal office.

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in Canada. This role is not eligible for sponsorship, and we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa or work permit.

Aon is in the business of better decisions

At Aon, we shape decisions for the better to protect and enrich the lives of people around the world.

As an organization, we are united through trust as one inclusive team and we are passionate about helping our colleagues and clients succeed.

What the day will look like

  • Maintaining and enhancing our inhouse applications built primarily with C#, .NET and Microsoft SQL Server, including adding new features, improving usability, and solving bugs raised by users.
  • Fulfilling adhoc data requests from colleagues by writing and optimizing SQL queries to extract, validate and format information from our systems for business, operational and reporting needs.
  • Building and supporting automation solutions (mail merge, Excel macros, C# utilities and SQL Server scripts) that streamline office workflows and improve efficiency.
  • Acting as a liaison between business users and Aon IT, helping to translate user requirements into technical requests (e.g., application changes, folder or network access, permission updates).
  • Partnering with Aon IT teams to coordinate and test system upgrades, patches and infrastructure changes, ensuring our C#/.NET and SQL Server–based applications remain stable and available with minimal downtime.
  • Developing and maintaining business reports (for example, attendance and other key performance or operational reports) using tools such as Crystal Reports, Excel and SQL Server.

You will have direct contact with business users, giving you a clear view of how your work improves efficiency and supports critical daytoday operations. You will be working for a business unit supporting high profile clients in the professional services industries, operating in multiple insurance markets (US, UK, Bermuda, Canada) and will have the chance to interact with people from all those locations.

We are a small team, you will gain broad, handson experience across application development, data/reporting, automation and basic infrastructure coordination rather than being limited to a narrow specialization. You will work closely with experienced colleagues in both the business and Aon IT, with opportunities for mentorship, onthejob learning and exposure to enterprisegrade tools and environments.

The systems you support are important to our business; you will quickly see the impact of your work and be encouraged to propose and implement improvements.
