What is an internship building code plan reviewer?

An Internship Building Code Plan Reviewer is typically a student or recent graduate who assists in examining architectural and engineering plans to ensure they comply with local, state, and federal building codes and regulations. Under supervision, they learn to review construction documents, interpret codes, and provide feedback to architects, engineers, and contractors. This role is an entry-level opportunity to gain hands-on experience in code compliance, plan review processes, and the workings of building departments. Interns may also participate in meetings, conduct research, and help with administrative tasks related to permitting and inspections.

What types of projects and building plans does an internship building code plan reviewer typically review?

As an Internship Building Code Plan Reviewer, you'll commonly examine architectural and engineering plans for new constructions, renovations, and additions to ensure compliance with local building codes and regulations. Projects might range from small residential homes to larger commercial buildings, providing exposure to a variety of building types and code applications. You'll work closely with experienced plan reviewers, engineers, and architects, receiving guidance while developing practical knowledge of code interpretation and document analysis. This hands-on experience is valuable for understanding the nuances of building safety, accessibility, and energy efficiency requirements.
