Job description

Description

As an Associate Engineering Intern, you will be assigned to work on a project team in our Grid business unit and assist the engineering team members in the execution of their project work. These projects may involve the design of new and/or modifications and upgrades to transmission and distribution engineering projects. 

Working under the direction of senior engineers, this internship will offer you the opportunity to utilize and expand your academic background in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, or other Engineering disciplines in one or more of the following areas: 

  • Assist in the preparation of engineering calculations, specifications, and designs. 
  • Work on a variety of tasks associated with project reporting, such as tracking and evaluating project activities, project progress, and associated data. 
  • Be involved in power designs and the preparation of documents and specifications for the procurement of major equipment, structures, and related installation services. 

This role offers a hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of spending three days a week in the office, giving you the flexibility to work remotely for two days. 

Qualifications

Essential skills and experience: 

  • Active enrollment in a Bachelor of Science or Master of Science in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering with a strong academic background. 
  • Candidates pursuing other engineering degrees may also be considered if they have relevant coursework in civil, geotechnical, strength of materials, statics, or electrical power. 
  • Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail. 
  • Self-Starter, proactive, able to work independently with minimal direction. 
  • Ability to quickly identify and prioritize issues, create solutions, and meet deadlines. 
  • Must be bilingual in Spanish and English (Read, Speak, and Write).

Valued but not required skills and experience: 

  • Active enrollment in a BS or MS ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission-approved program. 
  • Demonstrated leadership experience within campus and/or the community. 
  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred. 
  • Prior, related internship or co-op experience in our business area.

  • Programming or scripting (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate calculations, design checks, reporting, or data transformation is valued but not required.
