Job description

Overview: The Graphic Design & Print Production Student Employee Intern supports the daily creative and production operations of the campus print shop at a community college. This part-time internship provides hands-on experience in preparing, adapting, and producing print-ready materials for a variety of college departments while also contributing original promotional designs for the campus bookstore.
Campus Location: Des Plaines
Length of Employment: July 2026- December 2026

Hours Available: 10-15 hrs/week
Schedule Flexibility: Flexible
Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities (TDRs) and Learning Outcomes:
• Adapt and rework existing graphic designs from college departments (CD,TC)
• Prepare digital files for production by checking fonts, links, sizing, color accuracy, and overall file integrity (CD, TC)
• Create original promotional and marketing materials for the campus bookstore (CD)
• Communicate professionally with print shop staff and campus clients (PF, CM)
Candidate Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Other Abilities or KSOAs)
Qualified candidates will have the following competencies and skills:
• Basic to intermediate proficiency in graphic design principles, including layout, typography, color theory, and visual hierarchy
• Working knowledge of industry-standard design software, such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop (or equivalent)
• Understanding of print production fundamentals, including file setup, resolution, color modes (RGB vs. CMYK), bleeds, and margins
• Ability to follow established brand guidelines and apply them consistently across materials
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy when preparing files for print
• Ability to accept feedback and make revisions in a timely, professional manner Effective time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines in a production environment
• Clear written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
• Basic organizational skills, including file naming and version control
• Willingness to learn print shop workflows, equipment, and safety procedures
• Professionalism, reliability, and a positive attitude in a customer-focused campus setting
• Eligible to work in the United States
• GPA of at least 2.0 or higher at the time of hire
• Enrolled in at least six credit hours during the fall semester
