Job description

Description

We are seeking a Electrical Engineer to lead and support the design, development, and sustainment of production and engineering test systems. This role is heavily hands-on, with significant responsibility for PCBA test fixture design, including bed-of-nails systems, interface hardware, and lab-based electrical testing in support of manufacturing operations and New Product Introduction (NPI).

The ideal candidate brings deep, practical experience with test hardware architecture, interface boards, failure analysis, and electrical instrumentation, and is comfortable operating with limited oversight in a fast-paced, manufacturing-oriented environment. This role partners closely with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and operations teams to ensure robust, scalable test solutions.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and sustainment of PCBA test fixtures, including bed-of-nails systems and associated interface hardware.
  • Own test fixture hardware architecture for board-level and sub-assembly testing, including schematic design, wiring, component selection, BOMs, and documentation.
  • Design, modify, and review interface boards using Altium Designer to support automated functional and manufacturing test systems.
  • Drive and execute root cause failure analysis (RCFA) for PCBA, fixture, and test system failures; partner with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality to implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Provide technical leadership for power electronics testing, including inverter and component-level testing, troubleshooting, and failure investigation.
  • Support the development, commissioning, and validation of new test stands, ensuring hardware readiness, safety compliance, and documentation completeness.
  • Utilize advanced electrical test equipment to perform functional, characterization, and verification testing.
  • Support verification and validation (V&V) activities for new R&D products, including fixture bring-up, test methodology development, and execution.
  • Provide expert-level hands-on lab support, including board bring-up, advanced troubleshooting, rework coordination, and end-of-line testing.
  • Create, review, and maintain test procedures, engineering documentation, and controlled records.
  • Mentor junior engineers and technicians on test hardware design, troubleshooting practices, and lab best practices.
  • Collaborate closely with software, embedded, mechanical, manufacturing, and quality teams throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Occasional travel (<10%).

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • 5-15 years of relevant experience in electrical engineering, test engineering, or manufacturing test environments.
  • Proven experience designing PCBA test fixtures, including bed-of-nails or high-volume manufacturing test systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of Altium Designer for schematic capture and interface board design.
  • Solid understanding of electrical circuits, power electronics fundamentals, and board-level design considerations.
  • Extensive hands-on lab experience with electrical instrumentation, including:

                       o Oscilloscopes

                       o Digital Multimeters (DMMs)

                       o Power Analyzers

                       o Function Generators

  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex electrical issues at both board and system levels.
  • Strong technical documentation, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience with power electronics, including inverters, converters, or high-power systems.
  • Experience with NI test equipment, with exposure to NI TestStand and/or LabVIEW.
  • Background supporting production and manufacturing test systems in medium- to high-volume environments.
  • Familiarity with industrial or commercial electrical power systems and safety standards.
  • Experience leading or contributing to failure analysis, yield improvement, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  •  Prior experience mentoring or providing technical guidance to junior engineers or technicians.

What You'll Bring

  • A hands-on, detail-oriented approach to electrical testing and troubleshooting.
  • Comfort working in a lab and manufacturing environment.
  • Willingness to learn, take ownership of test hardware, and grow within a test engineering function.

Benefits

  • 401(k) with company matching
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Disability and life insurance
  • Flexible Spending Account (FSA)
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • Paid Time Off (PTO)
