Job description

Description

A career in Corporate Finance at Liberty Mutual is more than numbers and reports. It's about turning data into insights that strengthen decision-making, improve governance, and help the business operate smarter and faster.

As a Business Analyst I on the Data Strategy & Governance team, you'll work at the intersection of finance, data, and business operations-supporting initiatives that enhance enterprise financial data quality, transparency, and consistency. If you're early in your career, curious about how data drives business outcomes, and eager to grow your analytical skills, this role could be a great next step.

 The Details

As a Business Analyst in Corporate Finance, you'll help turn finance needs into clear, consistent data that teams use for reporting and decision-making. You'll work closely with product owners and engineering squads to support efforts that standardize premium and loss information across systems.

Most of your time will be spent learning the data, gathering requirements from finance partners in support of Product Owners, checking examples of source data, and helping make sure the transformed data meets business needs. As you grow in this role, you'll take on ownership of small-to-moderate analyses and data requests end-to-end, lead routine stakeholder conversations, and present findings with increasing independence. You'll also build deeper expertise in premium and loss data, create simple monitoring or validation checks, and learn basic data and reporting tools to support more complex requests.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop foundational skills in business analysis, data strategy, and corporate finance while gaining exposure to enterprise-wide initiatives.

 What You'll Do
  • Collaborate with product owners and finance partners to understand what data is needed and why
  • Help define and document clear requirements for use by squads
  • Support the team in testing and checking transformed data to make sure it matches business expectations
  • Develop and maintain reports and dashboards of lower to moderate complexity; recommend enhancements to improve clarity, accuracy, and usability
  • Create reports or spreadsheets to show data issues or confirm fixes
  • Support implementation of data or process improvements and help evaluate results
  • Respond to data-related questions from business partners by applying knowledge of financial data and business operations
  • Learn from engineers and data teams about how data is built so you can better support the squads
QualificationsWhat You've Got
  • 0-2 years of relevant professional experience, or equivalent experience through internships, co-ops, or rotational programs
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Analytics, Economics, Information Systems, Mathematics, or a related field
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
  • Solid working knowledge of Excel; experience with reporting tools or databases, writing SQL queries, and working with AI is a plus
  • Ability to organize information, manage priorities, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain data clearly to diverse audiences
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn, especially about financial data, data governance and standardization, and business processes
  • Authorization to work in the United States on a permanent basis
