Position Summary Information

Join Northeast Ohio Medical University’s (NEOMED) College of Medicine

The Department of Family and Community Medicine invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. We seek an innovative educator and scholar with expertise in epidemiology, biostatistics, population health, quality improvement, social determinants of health, and related areas that advance health equity and community well‑being. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching, curriculum development, student mentoring, scholarly activity, and service within an interdisciplinary health professions education environment. The faculty member will contribute to curriculum design, implementation, and continuous quality improvement, playing a key role in preparing future healthcare professionals to understand and address the behavioral, social, environmental, and systemic factors that influence health outcomes. Specific areas of instruction will include epidemiology, population health, health services research, quality improvement and patient safety, social determinants of health, health equity and health disparities, community and public health, evidence-based practice, and health care systems and policy.

Full-time non-tenure track faculty position with primary curricular and teaching responsibilities within the College of Medicine (COM) in the Department of Family and Community Medicine. Requires knowledge and oversight of contemporary curriculum delivery, content development, evaluation, and performance outcomes with primary teaching responsibilities in behavioral and social sciences areas critical to the pre-clerkship and/or clerkship phases of an undergraduate medical education program.

Teaching and Service: Participate primarily in medical student education based on areas of expertise, contributing to direct teaching needs and education leadership. Deliver relevant content using innovative and effective techniques to engage medical and health professions students and enhance their learning. Use active learning strategies, case-based instruction, and interprofessional education approaches, such as flipped classroom sessions, peer instruction, and problem-based learning, and development of modules using multimedia. Link course content to established learning objectives and assessments. Educational contributions will include teaching in coursework that integrates biomedical sciences, behavioral and social sciences, humanities and ethics, and provides the important clinical contexts relevant to medicine and the health professions.

Active participation in departmental, college, and university committees will be required and assigned. Membership and participation in state and national professional organizations will be expected and encouraged. The faculty member will contribute to accreditation activities, program evaluation, and institutional strategic initiatives. Evaluating the success of service obligations will be based on level of participation and engagement in support of related activities.

Research: Participate in scholarly activities and research focus areas as appropriate. Seek extramural funding opportunities, write and submit proposals, conduct collaborative scholarly inquiry. Maintain extramural funding and productivity, generate a percentage of base salary through extramural support. Publish papers in high quality refereed journals. Serve on journal editorial board and peer-review committees as appropriate. Evaluating the success of research obligations will be based on efforts toward publication and grant funding success.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or equivalent earned doctorate (e.g., Dr.P.H. M.D., D.O., Psy.D.) in public health, epidemiology, behavioral sciences, health services research, population health, sociology, psychology, health policy, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum three years’ experience in undergraduate, graduate, or medical student teaching.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Teaching Experience and Expertise: Evidence of effective teaching or teaching potential in medical, health professions, and graduate education. Expertise in curriculum and course development and implementation. Demonstrated interest in educational innovation steeped in contemporary educational approaches. Openness to new educational methods.
  • Scholarly Activity: Track record of research/scholarship, creative activities, and/or professional development. Able to contribute to the scholarly mission of the department and able to mentor students, fellows, and faculty as appropriate.
  • Collaborative: Can work collaboratively with administrators, faculty, staff, and students at the department, college, and university levels.
  • Humanistic Environment: Committed to fostering student success and building a humanistic culture/climate within the department, college, and university.
