Lead Behavioral Health Coordinator

Location: Sacramento, CA

Job Type: Full-time

Shifts: Mon - Fri (Days)

Setting: FQHC or community health outpatient clinic

Job Description:

We are seeking a dedicated and organized Lead Behavioral Health Coordinator to support Behavioral Health operations and ensure efficient coordination of referrals, authorizations, patient support, and departmental workflows. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership, communication, and healthcare coordination skills while delivering high-quality patient-centered services in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate Behavioral Health referrals, authorizations, and specialty care services.

  • Support departmental operations, reporting, trainings, and workflow management.

  • Supervise and assist referral staff to ensure timely and accurate service delivery.

  • Maintain accurate documentation within Electronic Health Records (EHR).

  • Monitor referral status and follow up with patients, providers, insurance plans, and specialists.

  • Address escalated patient or staff concerns professionally and efficiently.

  • Collaborate with internal teams to support continuity of care and quality outcomes.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Health Administration, or a related Behavioral Health field required.

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a healthcare or medical clinic setting handling referrals and authorizations.

  • Prior leadership or coordination experience required.

  • Strong understanding of referral coordination and insurance authorization processes.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology, ICD-9/10, and CPT coding.

  • Familiarity with HMO, PPO, Medicare, Medi-Cal, and related insurance programs.

  • Experience working with Electronic Health Records (EHR); Epic experience required.
