Job description

Join Amazon's Last Mile Delivery Automation Team!
Are you interested in building the cloud and operational systems that make autonomous delivery possible? Join us in creating the platforms that connect vehicles, data, machine learning, and fleet operations across Amazon's last-mile network.
The Last Mile Delivery Automation organization is developing autonomous delivery vehicle technology for Amazon Logistics (AMZL). Our Cloud Services & Operations Apps team builds the backend services and operator tools required to develop, test, deploy, and operate these vehicles safely at scale.
We have established an end-to-end path for collecting high-volume sensor data, securely transferring it to the cloud, processing and cataloging it, replaying recorded drives, and using it in model training and evaluation. Our next challenge is scale. We are expanding these systems to support larger fleets, more operating locations, larger multimodal models, repeatable simulation and evaluation, and increasingly sophisticated vehicle and fleet operations.
As a Software Development Engineer on the team, you will build distributed systems and applications that span the vehicle-to-cloud data path. You may work on sensor-data processing, ML development infrastructure, fleet health and diagnostics, route and Operational Design Domain (ODD) services, software-release controls, or tools used by engineers and operators to manage autonomous vehicle testing.
What Makes This Role Exciting:
- Build an End-to-End Platform: Develop systems that connect vehicle data capture, secure upload, cloud processing, ML workflows, evaluation, and fleet operations
- Solve Problems at the Intersection of Vehicles, Cloud, and ML: Work with large multimodal datasets and build the infrastructure that helps autonomy teams train, evaluate, and improve driving models
- Enable Real-World Fleet Operations: Create services and applications for vehicle readiness, diagnostics, route execution, software releases, incident response, and operational reporting
- Design for Rapid Growth: Evolve working early-stage systems into reliable, scalable platforms that support more vehicles, locations, users, and experiments
- Own Meaningful Systems: Take services from design through implementation, deployment, operational support, and continuous improvement
Key job responsibilities
- Design, implement, and operate distributed services that ingest, process, catalog, and serve high-volume vehicle sensor and operational data
- Build self-service infrastructure for model training, dataset and model versioning, experiment tracking, replay, simulation, and repeatable evaluation
- Develop fleet operations services and applications for vehicle health, diagnostics, readiness, software deployment, maintenance, and incident workflows
- Build route, itinerary, and ODD-aware services that connect autonomous vehicle testing with last-mile planning and operational systems
- Create secure, observable, and resilient interfaces between vehicles, edge infrastructure, cloud services, and engineering tools
- Partner with autonomy, hardware, safety, operations, and product teams to define requirements and deliver integrated capabilities
- Own the full software development lifecycle, including design, implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, and operational support
- Contribute to technical design reviews, improve engineering practices, and help evolve greenfield systems into production-quality platforms
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience
- 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience
- Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
- Experience operating highly available, distributed systems of data extraction, ingestion, and processing of large data sets, or experience in software development
- Experience with fleet management, connected devices, edge computing, geospatial systems, or operational applications
