Location: Primarily Technical Education Center (TEC), but any other college location as assigned by the appropriate administrator.
SUMMARY
Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) is currently searching for Adjunct faculty to teach courses selected from the following areas: music technology, audio ear training, live sound, multimedia production (including audio, video, and lighting components), audio for non-musical applications (including audio for video, podcasting, and game audio), and music business.
This is a POOL position, with immediate need for the Fall 2026 semester. Application materials for this adjunct position are accepted on an ongoing basis.
POSITION DESCRIPTION

  • Provide instruction, activities, assignments, and assessments to adequately cover the Audio Engineering Department Student Learning Objectives for the specific course(s) taught.
  • Use teaching methods that emphasize application, cooperation, and collaboration, and engage students actively in their studies, encouraging them to become independent learners with higher-order thinking skills.
  • Organize and explain content using methods that are appropriate to students with differing abilities, levels of preparation, and cultural experiences.
  • Assign and provide feedback for in and out-of-class work; monitor student progress.
  • Perform adequate assessment and analysis of assessment according to college requirements.
  • Reflect on and evaluate the effectiveness of one's own pedagogy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Depending on the class taught, selected from:
  • Experience with, and ability to teach DAW-based music production in ProTools, Cubase, Logic, and Ableton Live.
  • Experience with, and ability to teach a wide variety of virtual instruments and synthesis types common in the industry.
  • Experience with audio ear-training concepts and teaching experience in that area.
  • Experience with professional concert-level sound systems, and the ability to teach FOH and monitor setup and mixing.
  • Familiarity with, and the ability to teach digital video production, lighting concepts, shooting and editing (using Final Cut and Premiere).
  • Familiarity with, and the ability to teach audio for video (production sound and post-production).
  • Familiarity with, and the ability to teach a variety of audio for non-musical topics, including podcasting, corporate event production, and game audio.
  • Experience with, and ability to teach small and large format analog and digital mixers and signal flow.
  • Experience with, and ability to teach outboard studio hardware.
  • Ability to teach audio theory.
  • Ability to teach computer and technology literacy relevant to music technology and audio engineering.
  • Ability to teach music notation software (Musescore).
  • Experience with, and the ability to teach the state and business of the music industry.
  • Experience setting up microphones for studio recording of typical rock and pop music instruments.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to arrive on time and be ready to teach course(s) during scheduled times.
  • Ability to prepare curricular materials to convey learning objectives to students.
  • Ability to effectively utilize Blackboard for posting assignments, assessing students, performances, and grading.
  • Ability to think critically and solve problems independently.
  • Ability to be organized and work on multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to work with students, staff, and faculty.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 applications.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's or higher degree in audio engineering, music technology, music composition (with a technology emphasis) or a related field.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in audio recording or music technology.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's degree in audio engineering, music technology, or a related field.
  • Three (3+) or more years of professional experience in studio recording/mixing.
  • Two (2+) or more years of college-level teaching experience.
  • Experience with a Learning Management System such as Blackboard.
  • Experience in learner-centered pedagogy.
