Job description

Job Title: 3rd Grade Math Teacher
Department: Instructional Staff
Reports To: Principal and/or Assistant Principal
FLSA Status: Exempt

Position Summary

The 3rd Grade Math Teacher is responsible for providing high-quality, standards-based mathematics instruction that promotes student achievement and growth. This role requires the ability to design and implement rigorous, engaging lessons aligned to state standards, foster a positive and inclusive classroom culture, and use data-driven practices to support all learners. The teacher will actively collaborate with colleagues, communicate effectively with families, and contribute to the overall academic success of the school.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Instruction & Curriculum Development

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver daily math instruction aligned with state standards and district curriculum
  • Develop and implement long-term and short-term lesson plans that incorporate best practices in math instruction
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies, including guided practice, small group instruction, and hands-on learning
  • Integrate technology and digital tools to enhance student engagement and understanding
  • Scaffold instruction to support mastery of foundational math concepts and problem-solving skills

Assessment & Data Analysis

  • Design and administer formative and summative assessments to evaluate student progress
  • Analyze student data to identify learning gaps and adjust instruction accordingly
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student performance, grades, and attendance
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback to students to support academic growth

Classroom Management & Environment

  • Establish and maintain a structured, safe, and inclusive classroom environment
  • Implement effective classroom management strategies that promote positive student behavior
  • Build a classroom culture that encourages respect, responsibility, and a growth mindset
  • Ensure classroom procedures and routines are clear and consistently followed

Differentiation & Student Support

  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of all learners, including students with IEPs, 504 Plans, and English Language Learners (ELLs)
  • Collaborate with special education staff, interventionists, and support personnel to implement accommodations and modifications
  • Provide targeted interventions and enrichment opportunities based on student needs

Communication & Collaboration

  • Communicate regularly and effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress, behavior, and academic needs
  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences and school events
  • Collaborate with grade-level teams, instructional coaches, and school leadership to improve instructional practices
  • Contribute to a positive and professional school culture

Professional Responsibilities

  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training opportunities
  • Stay current with best practices in elementary math instruction and educational trends
  • Adhere to all school policies, procedures, and ethical standards
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by school administration
 

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field
  • Valid state teaching license/certification in Elementary Education
  • Demonstrated knowledge of elementary math standards and instructional practices
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills
  • Ability to analyze and use data to inform instruction
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred:

  • Prior experience teaching at the elementary level, preferably 3rd grade
  • Experience with differentiated instruction and intervention strategies
  • Familiarity with standards-based grading practices
  • Experience integrating technology into the classroom
