Job description

Job Description
The Application Engineer provides technical support to customers and develops solutions for customers using CMM and Gauging technology. This position will require significant travel within a designated region, Midwestern US, and occasional domestic travel within the US.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
Customer Application Development
  • Analyze customer measurement and inspection requirements.
  • Develop CMM inspection strategies for complex components.
  • Create and optimize MODUS and DMIS measurement programs.
  • Conduct proof-of-concept studies and feasibility investigations.

Problem Solving & Escalation Support
  • Troubleshoot customer measurement issues.
  • Resolve programming, probing, fixturing, and correlation concerns.
  • Support customers through startup and production ramp-up.

Technical Sales Support
  • Support Regional and District Sales Managers.
  • Assist with technical presentations and product demonstrations.
  • Evaluate customer applications during the sales process.
  • Help define project scope, implementation requirements, and quotations.

Customer Training
  • Train customer personnel on: CMM operation, MODUS programming, Measurement strategies & best metrology practices
  • Other Duties as Assigned or Requested

Qualifications
Education and Experience: Minimum
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, or Engineer Technology equivalent, or experience equivalent
  • Ability to understand and comprehend engineering principles
  • Understanding of mechanical principles
  • Strong trouble shooting skills
  • Understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)
  • IT aptitude
  • Strong mathematical skills-i.e. Trigonometry
  • This position may require the use of, and access to, ITAR controlled data. The applicant must demonstrate eligibility to use and access such ITAR controlled data. The purpose of this requirement is to ensure compliance with U.S. export control laws.

Education and Experience: Preferred
  • Experience in Manufacturing, Quality Control, Metrology, or CMM Operations
  • Understanding of DMIS or other metrology languages
  • Experience with programming (VB, Java, C++)
  • Previous internship with a company involving the machining of parts
  • Experience in working with CAD/CAM in a manufacturing or Quality Control environment.
  • Experience using Renishaw products

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities, Competencies
  • Identification of problems and trouble-shooting of technical systems
  • Manual dexterity with the physical ability to install products in a normal production environment
  • Writing metrology programs

Compensation Range (Annual)
  • $70,000-85,000(depending on level and location)
