Job description

Position Description The Office of Information Technology (OIT) is seeking a temporary GIS intern(s) with a minimum of 10 hours/week and a maximum of 40 hours/week. Internship Description: This internship is an extension of academic instruction and provides the opportunity to turn classroom instruction into practical application in the workplace. The intern will draw upon the knowledge gained through college coursework to perform the principal assignment and/or projects of this internship.

The intern will work directly with the Anne Arundel County OIT GIS Staff in developing web mapping products, data development, and quality control procedures. The intern will learn Esri Enterprise products such as Portal, SDE, versioning, Dashboards, Storymaps, Python scripting, and geoprocessing. The intern will develop an understanding of how GIS is utilized throughout an organization for analysis and decision making.

Examples of Duties and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Type of Student: Undergraduate/Graduate College Major Preference: Geography, GIS, Information Systems, or Computer Science Location: Heritage Office Complex, 2662 Riva Road, Annapolis, MD 21401 Work Hours: Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m

(Schedule flexibility is available, up to 40 hours a week) Preferred skills: Dependable transportation Attention to detail Strong analytical and diagnostic skills Ability to work as part of a team Eagerness to learn and has ability to learn independently Excellent presentation and communication skills to effectively communicate with management and customers Ability to clearly articulate complex concepts (both written and verbally) Effective time management skills Experience with Esri Enterprise, including ArcGIS Pro and Portal Spatial analysis techniques Minimum Qualifications Candidates should be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in computer science or a related field, with an interest or familiarity with the technologies mentioned in the specific program. All applicants/students must have a cumulative GPA of a 3.0+. Note: Students are required to upload an official or unofficial transcript to their application to demonstrate their enrollment status and GPA
