Job description

Ring is redefining how millions of people interact with their homes every single day. As a Senior Builder on this feature team, you'll own and evolve some of the most foundational user experiences in the Ring app - the surfaces customers touch every time they open it, and the experiences other engineering teams build on top of. When you ship here, the impact compounds across the entire app.
This team also owns experiences that sit at the heart of Ring's security promise to customers - the kind of work where reliability, latency, and clarity aren't nice-to-haves, they're the product. We need senior engineers with deep iOS or Android expertise - ideally both, or equivalent depth in a cross-platform framework like React Native - who can navigate that bar and raise it.
This is also a role for someone who sees AI as a fundamental shift in how software is built, tested, shipped, and maintained. You'll champion AI-powered development practices on the team and influence how engineers across Ring apply them to feature work.
Key job responsibilities
You will:
- Lead the technical design and delivery of foundational user experiences that millions of customers use every day, and that other Ring teams build their features on top of
- Own the architecture, quality, and long-term health of the surfaces this team is responsible for - making decisions that balance velocity, reliability, and scale
- Champion AI-powered development practices on the team - code generation, automated testing, intelligent code review, AI-assisted debugging - and help raise the bar for how the broader org applies them
- Set the bar for performance, reliability, and craft on experiences where customers expect responsiveness and trust at all times
- Partner closely with product, UX, backend, and platform teams to deliver cohesive end-to-end experiences across Ring's connected device ecosystem
- Mentor and grow the engineers around you - through design reviews, code reviews, pairing, and technical leadership
- Drive operational excellence: observability, on-call response, defect resolution, and continuous improvement of CI/CD and testing for your surfaces
A day in the life
As a Senior Builder on this team, you will:
- Shape the technical direction of experiences that anchor the Ring app and that other teams depend on - your decisions ripple far beyond your own surface area
- Tackle hard problems at the intersection of UX, performance, and reliability for features that customers rely on for their sense of safety
- Operationalize AI-powered workflows in your own development and across the team, identifying where AI can eliminate toil and accelerate delivery
- Engage in deep technical discussions about architecture, state management, navigation models, and platform-specific tradeoffs with experienced mobile engineers
- Build features and infrastructure that protect millions of homes - your work has real, tangible impact on people's sense of safety and connection
About the team
This team owns foundational user experiences that anchor the Ring app and that many other teams build features into. We hold ourselves to a high bar because the experiences we own are the ones customers see most often and rely on most heavily - including the moments when Ring's security promise is on the line.
You'll work closely with senior leadership every day. Ring is intentionally structured to break down the corporate org-chart barriers that slow teams down - builders sit shoulder-to-shoulder with the leaders setting direction, and decisions happen in the room rather than three layers up. That leadership is deeply hands-on, actively reshaping how we think about AI in software development, and shaped by a vision that has redefined what neighborhood safety looks like for communities around the world. As a Senior Builder, you won't just receive that vision - you'll help carry it forward into how Ring builds mobile software.
We combine the ambition and speed of a startup with the scale, resources, and impact of Amazon.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
- 7+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
- 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 5+ years of deep native iOS (Swift/Objective-C) or Android (Kotlin/Java) development, with working knowledge of the other platform - or equivalent depth building production mobile apps with React Native or a comparable cross-platform framework, with strong familiarity with at least one underlying native platform
- Demonstrated experience shipping and operating features at large scale (millions of daily active users)
- Experience designing and implementing modern mobile architectures (e.g., MVVM, MVI, Clean Architecture, unidirectional data flow) using current platform tooling (SwiftUI/UIKit, Jetpack Compose, Coroutines, Combine, etc.)
- Strong command of the full mobile SDLC including CI/CD, automated testing, release management, and production monitoring
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
- Demonstrated adoption of AI-powered development tools and practices (AI-assisted coding, automated test generation, intelligent code review, AI-driven debugging)
- Experience building features or surfaces that other teams integrate into or extend
- Experience working on user experiences with strict reliability, latency, or correctness requirements
- Experience with modern navigation, state management, and complex UI composition at scale
- Experience integrating cross-platform frameworks (React Native, Flutter, Kotlin Multiplatform) into existing native applications
- Performance optimization experience for resource-constrained environments (battery, memory, network)
- Experience with REST APIs, real-time/event-driven services, or push-based architectures
