  • This job is a member of the Engineering Support Center (ESC)  Team within the Technical Operations Division. 
  • This team helps troubleshoot and resolve operational issues on transport category aircraft. This position will be responsible for developing, substantiating and issuing repairs/approvals for discrepancies that are outside of any existing published limits. This is an Airframe engineer position.
     
What you'll do
  • Develops, substantiates and issues repairs/approvals for discrepancies that are outside of any existing published limits (only engineering has that authority)
  • Provides engineering work scope for troubleshooting of operational issues to determine root cause and provide corrective action
  • Reads and interprets Digital Flight Data Recorder (DFDR) information to provide corrective action(s) to maintenance
  • Creates American Airlines Repair Document (AARD) for recurring aircraft discrepancies
  • Assists with troubleshooting chronic aircraft in the field
  • Assists with major damage assessment and temporary repair development in the field
  • Issues inspection Engineering Authorizations (EAs) for emerging safety or compliance issues when timeline is critical
  • Must be willing and able to work irregular hours and shift schedules including holidays and weekends
  • Must be able to travel (<25%)

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

Level 2

  • Bachelors of Science Degree in Engineering from an accredited college/university

Level 3

  • Bachelors of Science Degree in Engineering from an accredited college/university
  • 2 years working history as an Engineer with aviation experience

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

Level 2

  • None

Level 3

  • Familiarity with Code of Federal Regulations (CFRs), maintenance programs, Engine Manual (EM), Structural Repair Manual (SRM), Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM), Illustrated Parts Catalog (IPC), Fault Isolation Manual (FIM), Component Maintenance Manual (CMM), and Wiring Diagrams (WDM)

Skills, Licenses & Certifications

  • ​Knowledge of Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • In an expedient manner, must be able to prioritize workload, solve problems, substantiate solutions using valid engineering analytical principals, document solutions with good technical writings skills, and verbally communicate solutions throughout the maintenance organization
  • Ability to be self-motivated and discipline in work ethics
  • Ability to able to effectively multi-task various work activities to meet the requirements of the operation
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to maintain composure in a stressful environment
  • Ability to demonstrate a strong Customer service focus (internal and external)
  • Must possess good interpersonal skills to work with others
