Job description

Join Amazon Digital Acceleration (DA) technology organization as a Software Development Engineer on our horizontal systems services engineering team. DA is looking for a Senior Software Development Engineer (SDE) to join our team of Senior and Principal Engineers in building highly visible, robust automation tools and framework to tackle hard to solve problems. DA enables Amazon's digital businesses to innovate faster and deliver more for customers while ensuring reliability, scale, security and cost efficiency by building services and tools that are self-serviceable and configurable. Our team handles complexities of managing digital purchases across Amazon, including Amazon Prime, Kindle Unlimited, Audible, Music, and Video, using the latest in high-availability services and distributed systems.
We are looking for a Sr. SDE (Sr. Software Development Engineer) to help architect, design, build, test improvements to mission critical systems that power customer's digital purchases (eg subscriptions) at Amazon. You are expected to have industry-leading technical abilities that enable you to significantly improve product and build quality. You should have a combination of solid in-depth knowledge of test practices, solid understanding of the operating system software, as well as knowledge of object-oriented design principles. The software you will build should expose API defects in production level code as well as defects at the component and feature integration perspective. You should command the skill to communicate clearly and effectively. Candidates will need to define automation strategy, automation cases as well as design tools for unit, functional, and performance testing in a programmatic manner. In addition, you will also have the opportunity to propose improvements to our existing processes and automated tools in order to improve the organizations's development & release speed, quality and efficiency.
Key job responsibilities
To be successful in this position you will have:
A strong background in algorithms, data structures, Java, and databases both SQL and NoSQL
The ability to communicate clearly and concisely (both written and orally) and work well in a team across geographies
You should be able to quickly adapt to new development environments, learn new systems, create reliable and maintainable code, and find creative and scalable solutions to difficult problems
Experience working with high-traffic, scalable services is a plus
A day in the life
You will have a unique and challenging role that provides the opportunity to drive test and release enablement in one or more areas within Digital Acceleration (DA) using GenAI. You will lead our bar raising GenAI powered development/testing culture, and evangelize the processes and strategies that you will set and define to multiple teams across our organization. Your influence will extend beyond coaching engineers on development, testing and operational best practices, as we expect you to work with Software Development Engineers, Principal Engineers, Product Managers and TPM. You will coach and support teams to define their own tactics to elevate their software quality bar. You'll be building capabilities that enable automatic validation of multiple digital experiences, at scale. You will collaborate with several teams on the planning and execution of complex and highly-technical projects with high impact and visibility.

Amazon Digital Acceleration powers ordering, subscriptions, and device management for Prime, Amazon Video, Music, Audible, Alexa, and Kindle, amongst other digital businesses. We process billions of digital purchases every year and enable our digital businesses to grow their businesses worldwide. We are on a mission to be earth's best provider of one-time and recurring digital commerce, delivering a seamless and enjoyable post-purchase customer experience.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
- 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
