Job description

Amazon Leo is Amazon's low Earth orbit satellite network. Our mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. From individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies, Amazon Leo will serve people and organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.
Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
We are seeking an experienced System Development Engineer to join the satellite power systems team. You will be responsible for development of automation tools to determine power system health across a constellation of over 3000 satellites and execute operational response/runbooks to troubleshoot and solve in-flight anomalies.
The Power System Dev Engineer will be responsible for the development of operational automation including telemetry acquisition, processing, and response runbooks. You will serve as a critical liaison between Amazon Leo's Mission Operations and the Power System Design Engineering team, executing approved operational responses. This role combines hands-on operational support with the continuous improvement of processes and automated operational capabilities for the Amazon Leo Power System.
You will develop automation tools to maintain power system operational health by identifying and assessing potential risks and evaluating system health across the constellation. You will actively troubleshoot and investigate in-flight anomalies, working alongside power subject matter experts and systems engineers.
Key job responsibilities
Operations Engineering:
- Serve as primary operational liaison between Power System Engineering and Leo flight operations stakeholders.
- Monitor and assess power system health across the constellation.
- Develop metrics to track health and service uptime of each satellite & constellation.
- Investigate and troubleshoot in-flight anomalies, and execute operational responses.
- Escalate to responsible engineers for scenarios where existing automation or runbooks do not apply.
- Document operational instructions and procedures for the benefit of other Power operators.
- Support on-call activities for the areas your team support.
Automation and Software Development
- Develop and enhance operational procedures, both manual and automated.
- Create and review scripted operations procedures (i.e. software development).
- Improve telemetry monitoring and flight data analysis capabilities.
- Support continuous automation improvements for operational sequences.
- Formulate responses to new operational scenarios for review and approval from the Power System Engineering team
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree
- Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, Rust
- 3+ years of non-internship professional system development experience.
- Experience in developing the operational requirements, performance properties, and dependencies of complex hardware systems.
- Experience with data analysis tools and software
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- System development experience in the area of solar, battery, electric vehicle, drones, satellite, or rocket
- Experience in full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Design experience in the area of electric vehicles, robotics, satellite, or aerospace
- General knowledge of statistical analysis, signal processing, simulations, regression, optimization, and data analysis tools

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
