Job description


As a Mechanical Design Engineer II - Wheel and Brakes Structures here at Honeywell Aerospace, you will be part of a team that designs aircraft wheels and brakes for commercial and military aerospace industry. You will perform structural analysis on aircraft wheels and brake assemblies during all phases of the IPDS process. You will interact with representatives from other engineering functions based in South Bend, IN, as well as at sites in China, India, Mexico, and others.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze and size aircraft wheel & brake components and assemblies
  • Present and document analysis results
  • Review and approve aircraft wheel & brake component and assembly drawings
  • Review test procedures and reports
  • Witness structural tests
  • Evaluate manufacturing discrepancies
  • Support service issues
  • Review material failure reports
  • Support other product lines as needed
  • Improve existing engineering processes by eliminating non-value-added tasks and introducing automation through Python and other methods

Qualifications
YOU MUST HAVE
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in technical disciplines such as the sciences, technology, engineering or mathematics.
  • At least 2 years of experience or relevant coursework in at least two of the following areas:
    • Static analysis, including nonlinear and elevated temperature material behavior
    • Structural dynamics
    • Fatigue analysis for crack initiation
    • Damage tolerance analysis for crack growth, using NASGRO
    • Creep analysis
    • Finite element modeling in ANSYS, ABAQUS, and/or NASTRAN
    • Mechanical design experience using Siemens NX, Catia, or similar CAD package
  • Master's Degree in relevant concentration in lieu of 2 years of experience is acceptable
