Job description

Internship Overview
As an Accounting Intern at Summit Agricultural Group, you will be exposed to multiple aspects of accounting and finance within our extensive scope of agri-businesses.
Responsibilities include both daily accounting tasks and contributions to the month end financial close for Summit Farms and the associated investor entities. There will also be special projects such as cost analysis, tax credit preparation, inventory counts, and vendor risk management. You'll also gain hands-on exposure to AI tools like Claude as part of our accounting workflow. The position will be based at our Alden, Iowa headquarters.
Responsibilities
  • Assist in the monthly financial close of Summit Farms, including account reconciliations, entering journal entries, working with fixed assets, accrued expenses and other accounting areas.
  • Build an understanding of private equity funds through assisting in the monthly financial close of investment entities, including compilation of quarterly financial statements.
  • Gain exposure to Summit's accounting system by assisting the team with special projects.
  • Gain an understanding in financial reporting, control environment, inventory, and other areas.
  • Deliver a final presentation to Summit's management team summarizing experiences, results, and accomplishments from the internship.

Requirements
  • Completed Sophomore or Junior studying accounting, agricultural business, economics, or finance.
  • Exposure with Power BI or other data visualization tools is beneficial but not required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, highly entrepreneurial environment.
  • High level of interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Motivated self-starter with ability to work independently.
  • Proficient in Claude, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
