Job description

Retail Leadership Development Internship (Paid)
  • Location: Buffalo, NY (with local travel required)
  • Start Date: May 27, 2026 (subject to intern availability)
  • Schedule: Weekdays, normal business hours (minimum of 150 hours total)
Compensation:
  • $17 per hour
  • $200 per month auto allowance + fuel reimbursement (during the merchandising phase)
  • $25 per month mobile phone allowance
About Affinity Group Retail
Affinity Group Retail is a North American multi-channel food sales and marketing agency. Our Retail division partners with food manufacturers to drive success primarily in the grocery store channel. We are looking for a highly motivated intern to participate in a structured, hands-on learning experience that will provide valuable industry exposure.Internship Overview
Job Title: Leadership Development Associate
Target Candidates: Food Systems / Food Marketing majors preferred.
This internship is structured into three key phases to provide a comprehensive learning experience in retail merchandising, business operations, and analytics. The intern will engage in hands-on assignments and develop real-world skills that are resume-enhancing and career-building.Internship Responsibilities
Phase 1: Retail Merchandising Support
  • Travel to retail grocery locations and assist with merchandising activities.
  • Learn about products, customers, and execution of merchandising plans.
  • Perform planogram execution, shelf space management, and promotional compliance.
  • Conduct store visits, recap reports, and maintain inventory levels.
  • Rotate and stock refrigerated and frozen food items.
Phase 2: Business Operations Support
  • Attend weekly office meetings to experience sales planning processes.
  • Assist with sales planning, marketing, social media management, and event coordination.
  • Create sales presentations and retailer business reviews.
  • Provide administrative support to the Executive Leadership Team.
Phase 3: Analytics & Data Support
  • Learn to utilize syndicated, internal, and industry data systems (e.g., Nielsen).
  • Assist in collecting, organizing, and analyzing sales data to provide business insights.
Required Qualifications
  • Enrolled as a student in Food Systems / Food Marketing majors or a related field.
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong communication (oral & written) and organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information professionally.
  • Problem-solving skills and adaptability to changing environments.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 30 lbs and perform floor stock rotations.
  • Reliable transportation for daily travel to store locations.
  • Self-motivated with a commitment to excellence.
