What is an Internship A1 Audio Engineer?

An Internship A1 Audio Engineer is an entry-level position where individuals learn and assist with the responsibilities of an A1 Audio Engineer, who is primarily responsible for managing and mixing live or recorded audio for events, broadcasts, or productions. As an intern, you may help set up microphones, operate soundboards, troubleshoot technical issues, and work closely with senior audio staff to gain hands-on experience. This role is designed to provide foundational knowledge and practical skills for a career in professional audio engineering.

What types of projects can an Internship A1 Audio Engineer expect to work on, and how do these contribute to skill development?

As an Internship A1 Audio Engineer, you will typically assist with live event audio setups, operate mixing consoles under supervision, and help maintain audio equipment. You may also be tasked with troubleshooting sound issues and collaborating with other technical teams, such as lighting and video, to ensure seamless event production. These hands-on experiences not only build your technical proficiency but also develop your problem-solving abilities and teamwork skills—key assets for advancing to more senior audio engineering roles.

Strong problem-solving abilities, teamwork, and attention to detail help interns stand out in fast-paced and collaborative production environments. These skills and qualities are crucial for ensuring reliable, high-quality audio and smooth technical operations during live events or recordings.

Faith In Action Church is seeking an experienced and self-motivated Sound Engineer Intern to oversee and manage audio production during worship, streaming services, and special events. This role is ideal for someone who already has hands-on experience with live sound systems and is looking to further develop their skills in a ministry setting.

This position requires a candidate who can confidently step into a live-service environment with a working knowledge of audio engineering principles and equipment. We will provide a list of our current equipment and setup, and candidates are expected to familiarize themselves with the system.

This role offers the opportunity to apply and expand existing audio engineering skills while making a meaningful impact through ministry. The Sound Engineer Intern plays a vital role in helping create an environment where people can worship, connect, and engage without technical distractions.

TIME COMMITMENT
- Approximately 4–5 hours each Sunday, with periodic weekday services and rehearsals
- Additional event dates, conferences, and special events will be communicated and scheduled in advance

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
BEFORE SERVICE

• Set up and test microphones, instruments, playback devices, and other audio equipment
• Conduct sound checks with speakers, musicians, and worship team members
• Ensure all audio systems are functioning properly prior to service

DURING SERVICE

• Monitor and adjust audio levels for speakers, musicians, vocalists, online streaming, and media playback
• Quickly identify and resolve audio issues as they arise
• Maintain consistent sound quality throughout the service experience

AFTER SERVICE
• Power down and secure audio equipment
• Ensure equipment is stored properly and remains in good working condition
• Document and communicate any equipment concerns or technical issues
• Provide recommendations for improving audio quality and workflow when appropriate

QUALIFICATIONS
• Prior experience with live audio engineering or sound production required
• Working knowledge of mixing consoles, microphones, signal flow, stage audio, and troubleshooting techniques
• Ability to learn and adapt to an existing audio setup independently
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
• Ability to remain calm and focused in a live-production environment
• Dependable, punctual, and professional
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Residing within the local area is a plus
• Available to serve year-round is a plus
• Interested in becoming a consistent part of the ministry team rather than serving only for a semester or academic term

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
• Has hands-on experience operating live sound systems
• Is comfortable taking ownership of the audio environment
• Is willing to research and become familiar with church equipment
• Has a passion for continuous learning and improving their craft
• Can serve as a technical expert during services and events
• Understands the importance of creating an excellent worship experience through high-quality audio production

GROWTH OPPORTUNITIES
Faith In Action Church values long-term commitment and growth. We are seeking individuals interested in becoming a long-term part of our ministry team. Candidates who successfully serve in this role and remain available after graduation may be considered for additional responsibilities and compensation that reflects the individual's experience, availability, and level of contribution.
