Why this role matters

OptiCool designs and manufactures high performance, energy efficient cooling systems for modern data centers. We specialize in two phase cooling, applied at the rear door, that enables higher rack densities, lowers energy consumption, and enables scalable deployments.

We are currently seeking technicians with strong refrigerant fundamentals, piping/brazing discipline, electrical troubleshooting, documentation habits and comfort in uptimesensitive environments. This role is the front-line technical expert responsible for safe, professional, high-availability support in mission-critical data centers.

Key responsibilities

Field service execution (installation, commissioning, break/fix)

  • Perform on-site installation support, start-up/commissioning, verification testing, and turnover for OptiCool systems in Tier 3/4 and other mission-critical environments.
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, controls, and refrigerant-side issues on OptiCool equipment (RPW/RPC pumps, RDHx doors, refrigerant distribution network, and ODX heat rejection where applicable).
  • Execute emergency/break-fix response and restoration activities in accordance with customer site rules, change management, and OptiCool service standards.
  • Perform refrigerant best practices: evacuation, dehydration, pressure/leak testing, charging/recovery, and contamination control; document all work performed and readings captured.

Preventive maintenance, inspections, and reliability improvements

  • Execute formal preventive maintenance visits; perform standardized inspections/audits, record results, and propose corrective actions.
  • Identify pattern failures and recurring issues; provide actionable feedback to Engineering/Manufacturing for design-for-service and reliability improvements.
  • Support development of PM kits, field-ready spares recommendations, and service bulletins.

Customer, contractor, and partner enablement

  • Deliver customer and partner training (in person and remotely); coach site teams on safe operations and basic troubleshooting.
  • Help build and maintain OptiCool's contractor/partner network by reinforcing workmanship and documentation standards and serving as a technical mentor.
  • Maintain professional appearance and conduct as an OptiCool representative on customer sites.

Cross-functional support (lab/manufacturing interface)

  • Support factory/startup verification to ensure systems ship ready for the field; assist with troubleshooting and validation testing as needed.
  • Assist Engineering with test setups, data collection, and evaluation of new and legacy equipment when required.

Required qualifications

  • 3+ years of progressive field service experience in HVAC/R, mission-critical cooling, or closely related equipment service.
  • Demonstrated experience working in mission-critical environments (data centers, telecom, fabs, labs, hospitals, etc.) with strong safety and change-management discipline.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting ability (motors, VFDs, sensors, relays, power distribution basics).
  • Ability to read P&IDs/schematics, wiring diagrams, and installation drawings; comfortable capturing and reporting measurements.
  • Comfort with controls/BMS interfaces and basic networking concepts
  • Excellent customer communication and documentation skills; able to write clear field reports and service summaries.
  • Valid driver's license; ability to pass background checks as required by customer sites

Preferred

  • Experience supporting refrigerant-based precision cooling, pumped refrigerant loops, or two-phase thermal systems.
  • Experience with copper piping practices (including brazing), pressure testing, and cleanliness practices appropriate for refrigerant systems.
  • Demonstrated experience working in mission-critical environments (data centers, telecom, fabs, labs, hospitals, etc.) with strong safety and change-management discipline.
  • Experience delivering technical training to customers/partners and mentoring junior technicians.
  • Experience with FSM/ticketing tools and asset/service record management.
  • NFPA 70E / OSHA 10/30 and/or other relevant safety credentials.

Physical requirements & working conditions

  • Frequent travel and work in active data center environments; occasional work in mechanical rooms and on rooftops (ODX locations).
