Job Summary:
The Engineering Manager is responsible for leading and developing ProLift Rigging's engineering capabilities to exemplify best-in-industry performance. This role oversees the people, processes, tools, and standards necessary to deliver safe, innovative, and profitable engineering solutions.
Best-in-industry engineering at ProLift means leveraging engineering means and methods to anticipate and manage risk, drive innovation, and support the success of our field teams and customers. The Engineering Manager is responsible for the continual improvement of engineering processes, technical resources, and team development while ensuring alignment with company objectives, and operational excellence.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Engineering Process & Execution: Own and continuously improve the engineering process, ensuring all engineering deliverables support safe, profitable project execution while exceeding customer expectations. Hold teams accountable to established engineering standards, workflows, and best practices.
  • Engineering Culture: Build and lead a high-performing team of problem solvers and industry experts who are committed to excellence, innovation, collaboration, and delivering value to customers, field teams, and the business.
  • Talent Development & Workforce Planning: Develop and maintain a strong pipeline of humble, hungry, and smart engineering talent through strategic recruiting, structured onboarding, mentorship, succession planning, and enhancement of ProLift's internship program.
  • Department Strategy & Growth: Establish and execute departmental KPIs, OKRs, and strategic initiatives that align engineering objectives with company goals while driving continuous improvement and organizational maturity.
  • Engineering Tools & Technology: Oversee the selection, implementation, maintenance, and effective utilization of engineering software and technical tools, including but not limited to AutoCAD, Inventor, Navisworks, RISA-3D, MathCAD, Excel-based calculators, and 3D Lift Planner.
  • Training & Professional Development: Establish and maintain training programs that ensure engineers continuously develop technical expertise, industry knowledge, leadership capabilities, and practical field experience.
  • Innovation & Technical Advancement: Lead the development and implementation of innovative engineering methods, technologies, tools, and solutions that enhance ProLift's competitive advantage within target markets.
  • Budget & Resource Management: Develop, manage, and maintain departmental budgets, staffing plans, and resources to support company growth while achieving financial objectives.
  • Compliance & Engineering Standards: Ensure all engineering processes, calculations, tools, and deliverables comply with applicable industry standards, regulations, and company requirements.
  • Technical Support & Knowledge Management: Oversee the development and implementation of technical resources including engineering references, calculators, SOPs, training materials, qualification programs, corrective actions, inspection forms, and other operational support tools.
  • Industry Standards Leadership: Develop and maintain strategies, policies, and procedures that ensure compliance with recognized engineering and heavy lift industry standards, including OSHA, AISC, ANSI/ASME, DOT, and ISO 9001 requirements.
  • Team Leadership: Recruit, hire, coach, mentor, and develop engineering personnel while fostering accountability, engagement, and professional growth.
  • Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate closely with operations, sales, project management, quality, safety, and executive leadership to ensure engineering solutions support company objectives and operational success.

Preferred:
  • Professional Engineering (PE) License
  • Experience in structural steel calculations and complex stress analysis
  • Experience in heavy rigging/transport industry
  • Understanding of steel structures in accordance with the AISC Steel Construction Manual; below the hook lifting devices in accordance with the ASME BTH-1 standard; welded, bolted, and pinned connections
  • Understanding and interpretation of the following codes and standards: ASME B30
  • Working knowledge of solid modeling FEA techniques, and structural 3D analysis/design software such as RISA-3D

Required Qualifications:
  • 5+ years Heavy lift/rigging experience
  • ABET Accredited engineering degree in Structural or Mechanical Engineering
  • Strong Communication, Interpersonal, and Leadership Skills
  • Experience with Lift Planning and Design Software (AutoCAD, 3dliftplan, Mathcad, etc.)

Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, or Structural Engineering required
Administrative Skills:
  • Experience with Microsoft Office
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Must be organized, able to multi-task and team-oriented
  • Have attention to detail and be self-motivated
  • Able to plan, organize and execute daily requirements
  • Must possess a valid driver's license
