Description: POSITION DESCRIPTION

3D Documentation Intern


Vizcaya Museum and Gardens is a National Historic Landmark and accredited museum in Miami, Florida. Vizcaya Museum and Gardens seeks a detail-oriented and motivated 3D Documentation Intern to support ongoing work in LiDAR scanning, photogrammetry, and digital experiences at a National Historic Landmark. The intern will help transform existing 3D datasets into a structured, accessible, and sustainable resource while contributing to the development of workflows, tools, and strategies that support future documentation efforts.


Vizcaya is owned by Miami-Dade County and operated by the nonprofit Vizcaya Museum and Gardens Trust, Inc. Our mission is to preserve the estate’s cultural and environmental resources to engage people in connecting with the past, understanding the present, and shaping the future. Our vision is for Vizcaya to be “A Home for Miami, an Inspiration for All.”


Essential Functions


Configure and optimize a 3D documentation workstation for accessing and working with LiDAR and photogrammetry datasets


Inventory, organize, and standardize existing 3D data, including point clouds and associated files


Develop file structures, naming conventions, and metadata standards


Assist in planning a comprehensive 3D documentation program, including:


Selection of scanners and capture equipment


Development of capture workflows and documentation standards


Creation of a scanning schedule and prioritization framework


Evaluation of software tools for point cloud visualization, processing, and sharing


Support workflows for:


Data ingestion and storage


File management and version control


Integration with Vizcaya’s Digital Asset Management System


Contribute to strategies for backup, digital preservation, and long-term access


Identify and document practical use cases across preservation, facilities, and interpretation

Position Requirements


Strong background in information systems, data management, or a related field


Interest in digital asset management and digital cultural heritage initiatives

Ability to organize and manage digital information with attention to detail


Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams


Proficiency with Microsoft 365, experience with SharePoint, and general computer systems


Pursuing or recently completed a degree in Information Science, Computer Science, Digital Humanities, Historic Preservation, Architecture, GIS, or a related field Relevant coursework or experience in data management, 3D modeling, photogrammetry, GIS, or digital asset management preferred Equivalent combination of technical training, certifications, or hands-on experience will be considered


Compensation


The salary for this internship is $25/hour.


Work Environment/Physical Demands


The majority of work is done on site at Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, mostly in an office setting, though some work will be performed outdoors. Handling equipment up to 25 lbs. will be required. Vizcaya is a non-smoking environment.


Position Type/Expected Hours of Work/Schedule


This is a temporary position working up to 20 hours per week for 12 consecutive weeks, to be scheduled between July and October 1, 2026. The intern will work between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.
