Job description

Description
The Architecture & Engineering Department at Forest Lawn in Glendale is searching for a skilled Civil Drafter 2 to join our team. In this role, you will create precise architectural and engineering designs, drawings, and technical documentation that support manufacturing, construction, and fabrication activities. You'll serve as the department's expert in CAD, Civil 3D, and Autodesk applications, transforming preliminary sketches into accurate, specification-ready designs. This position also develops technical reports and ensures all drawings meet required standards and project needs.
What You'll Be Doing
  • Proficiently utilize AutoDesk to execute drawings while meeting project and industry specifications and requirements. Required skills include:
    • Sheet set-up, scaling, dimensioning, information layering, Xreference, sections, elevations, and drawing presentation.
    • Scan drawings and documents.
    • Use Excel, Power Point, and 3-D rendering software.
    • Successfully trouble-shoot most PC and plotter problems.
  • Identify and organize drawing sheets/project sets with minimal supervision of the Design Manager.
  • Determine drawing elements needed for each design, and produce required plans, sections, elevations and details.
  • Ensure drawings are accurate and complete. Refer to supervisor for guidance and questions.
  • Coordinate drawings prepared by in-house resources and outside consultants and incorporate drawings into a complete project set. Assist with survey party as required.
  • Under minimal supervision, accurately prepare project drawings sets.
  • Have knowledge of civil design, including grading plan composition and quantity take-off.
  • Prepare sales maps, file maps, and process property reservations and releases.
  • Prepare basic hydrology investigation and pipe sizing, SWPPP BMP application(s), legal description files and dedication maps; and/or basic architectural design including creating plans, profiles, sections, details, alternate design schemes, presentation drawings, and inscriptions.
  • Prepare presentation documents under general supervision. Work as part of a team and independently when needed.
  • Assist with layout of family specific memorials and inscriptions under minimal supervision.
  • Independently work on project designs with basic knowledge of drawing and specification protocol.

Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required. Associate degree (A.A.) preferred.
  • 2 years of AutoCAD technical school required.
  • 5 years or more of full-time AutoCAD and/or Revit/Civil 3D work experience or equivalent required.
  • Valid California Driver's License, including state required levels of active auto insurance required.
  • LSIT or EIT Preferred.
  • Demonstrate a high level of personal organizational skills through mastery of scheduling, punctuality, efficiency, and ability to follow through with commitments
  • Attain high levels of accuracy and quality in personal work output by self-checking and correcting personal work product and by accepting personal responsibility for assigned projects.
  • Proficient in general office software including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Working knowledge of Procore software is beneficial, but not required.
  • Able to shoot, download, assemble, organize, prepare, modify, and print digital photographs for project file reference or presentation.
  • Proficient in the use and basic maintenance of office plotters, printers, scanners, and copiers.
  • Able to order reproductions, deliveries, etc. from outside vendors for design-related services.
  • Basic understanding of algebraic, geometric, and trigonometric concepts as they relate to CAD layout.
  • Core proficiency in 2D CAD and/or Revit skills such as sheet set-up, scaling, dimensioning, layering and x-refs w/ ability to translate designs and details provided by others into a coordinated drawing set.
  • Proficient knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, Civil 3D, Architectural Desktop, or Land Desktop.
  • Core proficiency in 3D CAD skills including photorealistic rendering. Working knowledge of Sketchup, 3D Studio and Photoshop.
  • Demonstrate a basic proficiency and understanding of construction document layout and detailing including plans, elevations, sections, details, and schedules under general supervision.
  • Able to build physical models under general supervision
  • Understand document scanning and archiving.
