This role is ideal for a technical manager who enjoys variety: our client base includes inbound and outbound businesses and individuals, closely held groups, partnerships, corporations, foreign-owned U.S. operations and U.S.-owned foreign structures with differing levels of complexity.

The right candidate will be hands-on in reviewing complex compliance deliverables, identifying technical issues, guiding staff and working directly with partners and clients. This role offers broad exposure across the tax practice and the opportunity to become a trusted advisor on sophisticated international tax matters.

You will be responsible for:
  • International Tax Compliance: Manage and review U.S. international tax compliance for a diverse portfolio of inbound and outbound clients, including corporations, partnerships, foreign-owned U.S. businesses and U.S. businesses with foreign subsidiaries or operations.
  • Complex Reporting Forms: Review and supervise preparation of international tax reporting forms, including Forms 5471, 5472, 8858, 8865, 8621, 1120-F, 1042/1042-S, 8804/8805 and related W-8 documentation, with a focus on accuracy, completeness and practical risk identification.
  • Earnings and Profits / Tax Attribute Analysis: Analyze and review E&P, previously taxed earnings and profits, foreign tax credit, Subpart F, GILTI and related tax attribute calculations as relevant to client compliance and planning projects.
  • Withholding and Treaty Matters: Evaluate U.S. withholding tax obligations, reporting requirements and treaty positions, including documentation, characterization of payments and practical implementation for clients.
  • Inbound and Outbound Technical Issues: Address complex international tax questions arising from foreign investment into the United States, U.S. investment abroad, cross-border ownership structures, disregarded entities, partnerships and permanent establishment or branch considerations.
  • Research & Analysis: Delegate, manage and perform technical tax research to support compliance positions and client advice, translating complex rules into clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Client Service and Project Management: Manage multiple engagements and deadlines across the practice, communicate directly with clients and internal teams, and help ensure timely delivery of high-quality work.
  • Team Development: Serve as a technical resource and mentor to staff and seniors, promoting knowledge-sharing, consistent execution and professional growth.
  • Practice Support: Collaborate with partners and senior leaders to identify technical issues, improve processes, support engagement profitability and contribute to the continued growth of GHJ's international tax practice.
What skills & experience you'll bring to us:
  • Education & Certification: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business or related equivalent, as well as CPA certification. A Master of Science degree in Taxation, LL.M. or J.D. is highly preferred.
  • Experience Level: 5+ years of relevant public accounting or professional services experience, with a strong background in U.S. international tax compliance.
  • International Tax Compliance Expertise: Significant experience reviewing complex international tax filings and reporting forms, including Forms 5471, 5472, 8858, 8865 and 1120-F.
  • Technical Knowledge: Working knowledge of key international tax concepts such as E&P, Subpart F, GILTI, foreign tax credits, withholding tax, treaty analysis, branch reporting, entity classification and cross-border ownership structures.
  • Client Variety: Experience serving a range of clients and structures, including inbound and outbound companies, individuals, privately held businesses, partnerships and multinational groups.
  • Review and Supervisory Skills: Proven ability to review complex workpapers and filings, coach team members, manage competing priorities and maintain strong technical quality.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex international tax concepts into clear, practical advice for clients and internal teams.
  • Technology: Proficiency with tax preparation, research and planning software programs; experience with process improvement and technology-enabled compliance workflows is a plus.
What we need from you:
  • Leadership: Demonstrate leadership and supervisory skills while creating a collaborative, supportive environment for staff development.
  • Client Focus: Build strong client relationships by being responsive, practical, technically thoughtful and solution-oriented.
  • Judgment: Be a self-starter with the ability to work independently, identify when issues require escalation and apply sound professional judgment.
  • Execution: Prioritize multiple projects simultaneously, manage deadlines and maintain attention to detail in a fast-paced client-service environment.
  • Commitment: Bring curiosity, accountability and a strong commitment to teamwork, technical excellence and exceptional client service.
